Cask at the Oxford Tavern, Kentish Town on 12th November 2019. Clear amber with shallow foam and spot lacing. Malty aroma with sour fruits. Fruity in-mouth with spiciness. Complex finish of peach, sour plum, nutty malts and bitter spices. Smooth mouthfeel and light body. Served just a tad too cold.

Third, gravicask, shared with Finn at Twickenham Beer and Cider Festival. Low fawn-coloured head, pitch black in the glass, clingy lacing. Mid-sweet malt-driven smell of dark dough and chocolate. Taste of oatmeal and dark chocolate malts joined by a coffee bite. Gently roasted finish. Fine depth. Nice. (24.10.2019).

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at Brew Testament in South Hackney, I think. Pours clear brown with a fuzzy tan head that fizzles away fairly quickly. Has a lot of lightly tangy berries, background cocoa, minimal roast, not really any salted caramel, just accents of earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation. Suggestions of alcohol in the finish, more ripening berry tang, vague chocolate. Not the best.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at Bottle Apostle. Pours deep brown with a foamy, beige head. Nice throwback kind of impy stout, lots of strong ashy roast, woody dryness, baking cocoa, charred sugars, earth. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more strong dark malt character, ashy roast, bitter chocolate. Good stuff.

Cask at Southampton Arms. Dark brown with a golden head. Aroma is very roasty, bit of dark chocolate and lots of grain and a touch of smoke. Taste is slightly bitter, bit of coffee, bit dairy. Some roast malt too and a little bit of spice. Very grainy taste. Pretty nice!

Cask at Southampton Arms. Dark brown almost black colour with oily looking orange beige head. Looks potent. Aroma is very much full on and weird. Quite spicy, bit floral, lots of cinnamon and clove. A bit off-putting to be honest. Taste is similar but mellows a bit down the glass. Quite a winter warmer taste, and gets increasingly malty. Bit of bitter chocolate and lots of weird spice still. Touch of coffee. Texture is pretty oily and quite thick. Bit of a struggle to finish the pint.
