Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours clear orange-gold with frothy white head. Grainy malts in the nose, some ripe and rindy orange. Light to medium sweet flavour with touches of grape gummies, more grains, simple bread. Light bodied with creamy carbonation. Decent balance on the finish, slight alcohol, toasted cereal, grainy biscuits, berries. Tasty enough.

Bottle from Village De La Bière, Strasbourg consumed at Fischers Fritz Camping, Kirchner, Nr Zurich, Switzerland, Friday 24th June 2016. Pours black with a slim light beige head, a little black treacle and hops combine, hops linger longer though. Of all the Matten beers I’ve had so far this wins out. Good fruity black IPA, enjoying this. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle from Village De La Bière, Strasbourg consumed at Fischers Fritz Camping, Kirchner, Nr Zurich, Switzerland, Thursday 23rd June 2016. Very much a dark amber coloured beer with a foamy white/off-white head. Smells a bit like brewing day on the nose but more malty than hoppy, a little fruity but not so much, the maltiness has a damp aroma to it. Once again I get too much residual sweetness. It’s ok. Bottle from Village De La Bière, Strasbourg consumed at Fischers Fritz Camping, Kirchner, Nr Zurich, Switzerland, Thursday 23rd June 2016. Dark amber in colour with an off-white head, Lovely soft mouthfeel. There is a nice steady bittersweet balance but actually I am tending to get a bit of residual sweetness hanging about. I liked it at first but after awhile the appeal wanes. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.2

Bottle from Village De La Bière, Strasbourg consumed at Fischers Fritz Camping, Kirchner, Nr Zurich, Switzerland, Thursday 23rd June 2016. Pours copper in colour with a big frothy white head. Hoppy but not overly do, fruity but also quite a malty beast. Some citrus, mostly a sweet orange but sweeter as opposed to bitterness, fine. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

pours an opaque black with a huge chocolate head. aroma of herbal hops, rubber, roasted malts, smoke, coffee, a hint of tropical fruits. flavour of roast, licorice, herbal/digestive bitter (angostura-like). oily mouthfeel, very long bitter, somewhat tongue-numbing finish.

Opaque dark brown colour, tall slowly diminishing tan head, fair lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, bay leaf. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, dark chocolate, light spicy notes. Aftertaste as in taste added by some nutty notes, smooth mouthfeel, watery to creamy texture, light to medium body, soft carbonation. Not an exceptional beer and especially a bit on the thin side but well-made.

Bottle shared. Black with enormous beige head, hard to pour this one. Roasted malts, light chocolate, all kinds of tropical fruits with passion fruits, pineapple. Some lychee and dried peach. Underneath the hops there’s some coffee and light tart dried berries. Light sweet, medium bitter and a light sour kick at the end. Medium bodied with quite some fizzy but soft carbonation.
