Bottled on 4/9/10 from batch 001. Pours with a huge tan head over a bronze body. Aroma of alcohol, minty, rye (whiskey), and caramel. Taste is alcohol, boozy, bitter, and whiskey. Hop flavors are quite muted. Lively bubbles.

Oddly delicious. This beer is rather sweet and fairly cloying, however rye spice and the rye barrel work well with the sweetness. The rye is smoky, almost hot. There’s a lot of malt. Brown sugar, molasses, raisins, and lots of rye bread. It’s not really a DIPA, in my opinion. This is essentially an interesting barleywine. Hops are muted or, at least, masked by the rye and merely lend some bitterness in the flavor. It’s a fairly kooky beer. Lots of caramel malt. Definite alcohol heat. The total package is quite enjoyable. Definitely a sipper.

Interesting but too sweet and a tad boozy. The beer pours a brownish purple and looks like a thick red wine. There was little head on my pours, and while I can kick up some bubbles if I try, there was never any real lacing. I don’t usually care about appearance, but this beer does not make for a terribly pretty glass. The aroma is almost there with sweet caramel, dark stone fruits and a hint of something else, possibly the fig juice. It’s a tad on the sweet side, but it’s still quite pleasing. The sweetness increases in the taste and gets a tad cloying. The feel is also fairly sticky. There isn’t enough hop bite to balance out the sweet malt.

Bomber from the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Pours clear ruddy copper with a 3.5 finger foamy beige/tan head. Aroma is sort of hoppy over roast malt and a touch of that smooth vanilla? aroma associated with whisky barrels. Medium plus body with foamy/creamy carbonation. Rye it is. Oaky it is. Very hoppy it is. I’d say citrus and floral, but the barrel/whisky aspect sort of confuses things. There’s a lot going on here, including some mild heat. It is very, very tasty.

12 oz. bottle, pours dark copper with a big beige head. Aroma of strong hops, rye, pine and caramel. Aroma of extremely potent piney hops, grapefruit, caramel and some lingering citrus. Not as much rye as expected. Delicious Imperial IPA.

Sampler from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, April 5. Nice copper color. Bottle pour leaves a thin ring of foam at the top. I’m no longer getting much smell here, after just 14 samples. Definitely a big mouthful of hops, but not a big Pacific impression, more in the British profile. That’s what I thought without having a description handy, anyway. The did ratchet back the malt so the hops could take over. Not very strong in alcohol, again probably due to the hops. I’d have another.

22 oz. bottle, pours dark brown/black with a tan head. Aroma of very dark roasted malt, toffee, hops, chocolate and dark espresso. Flavour of chocolate, coffee, caramel malt, sweetness and some hops. Alcohol is hidden very well. Most excellent.
