Bottle, thanks pivnizub! Roasted metallic chocolate and plum nose. Burgundy with a off-white creamy thin layer. Rich fruity and berrylike start, wooden oaky rounding with a few iron nails, herbal hop finish. Fullbodied, yet a bit thin on the palate, slightly sparkly mouthfeel.. Dry metallic and woden aftertaste.

33 cL bottle, thanks to joergen. Pours hazy brown with a light off-white head. Slight malty aroma. Flavour is sweet malty. Almost like a kellerbier.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of joergen. Clear, dark amber golden with a small, beige head. Vinous aroma of dried and overripe fruit. Quite full-bodied with sweet notes of dried fruit, a touch of prunes I believe and a somewhat chocolatey finish. Nice but not overly spectacular. Probably will improve with age. 280907

Deep ruby colour. Dense head. Sweet chocolate and toffee aroma. Surprisingly thin mouth feel. Sweet, warming black currant and liquorice flavour. Warming alcohol in the finish. Never been a fan of the Traquair ales but this wasn’t too bad.

Dark black body with a medium frothy tan head that quickly diminishes. Huge coriander aroma with a lot of spice. Huge syrupy molassas flavor with tons of coriander and spice.

Traquair House Ale - 330 ml bottle purchased May 2007 at Blue Max in Burnsville, MN. Unable to determine age based on labeling, but expect this has at least a few years on it. Pour is reddish chestnut with a very minimal off white head, which immediately disappeared with just a wisp holding on to the edge of the glass. Aroma is a really well developed nutty caramel sweetness. Also some biscuit as well. Taste is the semi sweet caramel nuttiness suggested in the nose, with a really beautiful lingering woody smokiness to the finish. Had almost a whisky presence to the flavor structure - really well done. Palate was a touch thinner than I would have expected.

Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a medium foamy head with some OK retention. Aroma of fruit cake with some light figs notes also discernable. Taste is a mix between some fruity aroma reminiscent of fruit cake as well as some light figs and some medium caramel malt. Hops are very subtle and body was slightly too light for the style.

Chocolate brown with red highlights; yellow-brown, small head. Vinous, brandy, or even whisky-like, bit smoked - as in peaty. Alcohol comes out in force but in a refined way. Sweet-vinous flavours, somewhere halfway portwine & brandy. Lots of malt, but hints of the juice of the grape as well. Alcohol very obvious, ending in a drier way. Velvety, but oh so fierce, yet it has a carbonated, titillating MF. Impressive brew, better than their usual specials. Many thanks to whomever Britton that bestowed it on me at LCRBM

Brown bottle, 500 ml, via Importations Privées Bièropholie, savoured on September 19 2007; eye: amber with reddish hue and with golden amber reflections, clear, creamy tan head, good lacing; nose: lots of grainy malt, earthy, light hops, light wood, light leather; mouth: surprisingly thin, start is a lot hoppier than expected, grainy malt then arrives to balance the hops, a watery interlude, return of the malt-hops mix, finale in hops but where the grainy malt is quite present, harsh texture, mild astringency, mildly bitter, medium body, not much carbonation; overall: ordinary FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, via Importations Privées Bièropholie, savourée le 19 septembre 2007; œil : ambrée avec une teinte rougeâtre et avec des reflets ambrés dorés, claire, très légère effervescence, mousse crémeuse havane, bonne dentelle; nez : beaucoup de malt granuleux, terreuse, léger houblon, léger boisé, léger cuir; bouche : curieusement mince, attaque très houblonnée, malt granuleux qui arrive pour balancer un peu le houblon, un petit moment aqueux, retour du mélange malt-houblon, finale en houblon mais où le malt granuleux est bien présent, texture rugueuse, astringence moyenne, moyennement amère, corps moyen, peu carbonatée; en résumé : ordinaire

11.2 oz bottle - Pours murky brown with a thin head. The aroma is very sweet caramel malt and is a prelude to the sweet, malt dominated flavor. There’s yeast and some dark fruit notes in there as well. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated, it goes down easy. It’s good but could have been better.
