Bottle (bought at the brewery): Hazy, visible carbonation (?), thin but firm white head; sweet malty, grainy and dusty nose, a tinge of caramel and a touch of barrique, too, rounded by the aroma of hops; moderate bitter flavour, creamy mouthfeel; long and lingering hoppy aromatic finish with a distinctive touch of grains and a very, very faint touch of smoked malts in the background. Superb, great stuff. One of the best in good, old Franconia !

Bottle (bought at the brewpub) : Deep amber coloured, mid-sized fluffy head, quickly diminishing to a stable off-white layer; sweet malts in the nose, raisins, a bit vinous, too, distinctive, but "soft" traces of smoke; slightlöy sweet flavour with a bitter touch; delicate smoked finish with a good dash of sweet malts and hoppiness. Avery well rounded smoked Bock, harmonic, not too sweet, not too much smoke............

I am still not sure what I think about rauchbiers in general. Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large tan head. The aroma was light smoke. The flavor is light grainy malts with a smoky woody flavor. The smoke lingers on the palate.

Hazy, golden orange colour with a traditional weiss-bier head. Banana aroma with just a hint of smoke. Yeast and citrus flavour with a gentle touch of smoke in the background. Not bad but I expected more smoke.

(On tap @ the brewpub) Red-ish brown colour. Ok head. Somwhat smoked aroma. Sweet, somewhat smoked flavour. A bit thin. Tastes like a lighter Schlenkerla Rauchbier.

(bottle) Hazy orange-amber colour with a big rocky almost white head. Quite shy aroma of toasted malts and banana fruitiness. Soft malty flavour, light to medium body. Malty taste with a spare hint of smokiness and a citrus fruity clove spicy finish. I expected more body and smoke. Still a decent Weizen. (Thanks to pivnizub for this and the other samples !)

An amber beer with a disappearing orange head. The aroma is slightly smoked combined with notes of caramel. The flavor contains lots of caramel as well as some smoke. The mouthfeel is very smooth, but the body is thin. A very easily drinkable and enjoyable beer.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark amber with a small, white head. Smoky nose. Lightly sweetish, malty flavour with pronounced smoked notes, a bit flat. Rather light body and a very subdued bitterness. Quite a pleasant "Rauchbier". 300605
