Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Tap @ Café Morshuis Albergen. Brown color. Roast, chocolate, caramel and a hint of smoke in the aroma and flavor. Malty sweet. At least medium bodied. Not bad at all!

Bottle, 11 years past the BBD. Pours cloudy copper brown with very small off-white head. Clear aroma of Belgian yeast, malt and caramel, with fruity notes and touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of yeast and caramel malt, with dusty notes and touches of fruit and roast. Dusty and caramellish aftertaste with estery notes. A nice one.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought online @ Mr. Hop. Light hazy amber with a big coarse off-white head. Malty sweet caramel aroma with some yeast spiciness. Sweet taste. Bit over-carbonated with a spicy bitter finish. Unassuming at first but turns out quite okay.

Bottle from local Plus supermarket. Color: Amber to copper, off-white head. Aroma: Malty, caramel, sugar. Taste: Sweetish, malty, caramel and candysugar notes. Spicy. Over medium sweet, light bitterness. Bit sticky mouthfeel. Some alcohol, some hints of raisins and red fruit. Mostly sweet. Over medium body, just below average carbonation. Not my kind of Barley Wine.

Bottle at home. Ordered online from LekkerLokaal Nijmegen. Amber with off white head. Sweet malts, caramel, dry smokey beechwood, sheeps grease, some beefjerky and chestnuts. Moderate sweet and quite bitter, some dry meaty umaminess. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not as resiny and fat pigs greasy as some of the better smoked beers but rather dry and bitter. Still very enjoyable.

Fles thuis geprobeerd. Het is een licht troebel geel bier met een medium schuimkraag. Het heeft een anijsgeur. De smaak is kruidig, anijs en absint achtig.
