Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

On tap at the brewpub. Slightly hazy, dark red with a medium large, dense, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish, yeasty-spicy and slightly fruity aroma of caramel, dark honey, plum jam, raisins and and some licorice root. Very sweet, malty, moderately yeasty-spicy and slightly fruity taste of caramel, red fruits, raisins, licorice root and some clove, followed by a short, moderately bitter, yeasty-spicy and a bit warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty, a bit too sweet maybe, overall quite enjoyable though!
