Description
The soul of every great beer is in the grain. Established in 2006 in barns at South Farm, Alburgh, with Oak as the first beer, Grain Brewery has since grown and grown. From originally only selling beers in farm shops, local food festivals and farmers markets in Suffolk and Norfolk, our beers are now available on draught and bottled across most of East Anglia. The Plough was the first Grain pub in 2010, with keg production starting in 2012. The Spread Eagle in Ipswich and The Corn Hall in Diss followed, and who knows what the future holds?

Cask. I took this down as "Grain Oak Aged Porter" - suppose it’s this one? Pours black and opaque with a small off-white head. Aroma of butter and hard roasted malt with some licorice. Medium-bodied, flat, lots of hard roasted malt, licorice, coffee and dried fruit. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Lovely - apart from the buttery nose. 200110

Cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Amber with a thin white head; thin body, sweet with watery fruit. A depressingly ordinary bitter.

Cask, handpump at The Kingston Arms, Cambridge 27-03-10 Pours mid amber with a thin white head. There is toffee, its a touch sweet and in fact rather one dimensional but at £2.20 a pint its described as a ’recession busting beer’ and I cant argue, because its pleasant enough, maybe lacking in bitterness, touch chewy with toffee again. Cask-conditioned at the Wenlock, London 13/10/09. Deep gold with no head. Sweet malt and citrus hop aroma. Flavour came across as a good attempt at creating the Blue Anchor house style in Norfolk - plenty of butterscotch, red fruit, wood and grubby lichen. Poor.
