Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.

Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival. Aroma of malty, oaky, slight muckiness, yeast and straw. Oily and watery. Slightly disappointing.

500ml bottle in Devon at my parents joint 90th Birthday celebrations on Saturday 4th January 2025. Clean amber body, off white topping. Pleasant hop front with both fruitiness and piney aspects, semi bitter with a decent malty base.

Bottle from Morrisons' Xmas section rather than their beer section. Clear copper with small off-white head. Typical pasteurised ESB aroma with sweet malts, sultanas and light spices but with suggestions that it has been boiled to death and kept in a slowly rusting tin for 50 years. Taste is more interesting with caramel malt, light chocolate, sultanas, cinnamon and a leafy bitterness. Slightly cloying but has a decent body and a bittersweet tang, drying. Its ok, very drinkable.
