Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.
Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Copper brown with a dense head. Sweet, malty aroma with notes of butter, caramel and red berries. Flavour is caramel, red berries, brown sugar and a hint of licorice. Not too shabby, perhaps a tad too sweet.

Half pint, cask ale, shared with Finn at Shakespeares Head. Wetherspoon Beer Festival, March 24. Pearl white head over a clear warm golden body, laces well. Moderate aromas of tropical fruits. Hop fruity taste of mango and citrus offset by light cereal sweetness. Drying close. Rounded mouthfeel. Pretty okay. (London, 16.03.2024).

Cask at Square Peg, Birmingham. Pours golden yellow with a minimal scummy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has floral hops mixed with tropical fruits. In the mouth it is briefly sweet before bitterness quickly floods through. Plenty of traditional hops and tropical fruits including hints of pineapple and orange. Finish is dry and very bitter. This is decent – definitely a grower.
