Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.

Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

500ml bottle @ final beer tasting, Chez Sophie, Aug 24. Many thanks for this Jeremy. Had worse 32 year old beers. Rich sherry aroma, almost no cobwebs or dust. Continues to taste, held up surprisingly well, barley wine hints, quite drinkable.

Monday 5th August 2024, the last Minutemat led Shrewsbury Beer Gathering, five guys, loads of beer and bollox. I brough along this cobweb, a 500ml bottle from my garage. It's from 1992 and it didn't age too well. It poured a clean and clear amber, but didn't manage a head, not even a wisp or collar. Almost drinkable with a Barley Wine like sweetness and aroma. Scored kindly, hope someone else finds one.

25/7/2024. Cask at the 34th Ipswich Beer & Cider Festival. Pours clear bright amber gold with a small bubbly/frothy white head. Good looking beer. Aroma is malty, citrus, yeast, straw, musty and slightly mucky. Moderate sweetness, bitterness and body. Oily, watery. Soft carbonation. Drying finish. Maybe not as the brewer intended.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2024. Deep gold in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Floral hops, rich tea malts, some tangerine sweetness, leading to a moderately bitter finish. Good.

September 2008: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. Amber to brown colour, decent head. Malty and nutty aroma with notes of caramel and bakery. The flavour is nutty and malty too, but also with a noticeable fruitiness, and decent hops in the finish.
