Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!
Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.
Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!
In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Cask handpull at Westgate, JDW, Canterbury. Can’t tell whether this is diacetyl heavy or its supposed to have som much buttery toffee on it, but given everyone else’s reviews I tend towards the former. Butterscotch and hop on aroma, bit bready too. OK in mouth, bit sour with hop on finish, which is really quite drying. Default score 525213 2.7/5.0. Re-rate cask handpull County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Loved it, I had two pints in half an hour. The hops were superb. The diacetyl wasn’t anywhere present on this. Just lovely hops, tangerine and orange fruit. Good hoppy finish.

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy with notes of caramel and fruit - especially oranges. The flavor is sweet with a light touch of diacethyl leading to well hopped dry flowery end. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky.

Cask gravity at Notts BF 05. Think that this may have been getting a bit tired like me at the end of an 11 hour session on the Friday. Golden, no head. Hay and stale malt on nose. Some hop, some acid in mouth. End has dusty hop. Disappointing and not how I remembered it in the Head of Steam

Cask handpull at Borough Market. Dark copper colour with thin beige head. Cookie dough and hoppy aroma. Caramel and op in mouth. More hop on end but disappinting and a bit of muddle of flavours. Like so many beers at this pub, never sure that this is exactly how it should taste. 2.5/5 Re rate County Hotel Ashford. Decent hoppy pale ale. Good pink grapefruit hops.
