Description
In August 1982, our late founder Tony Allen opened Oak Brewery on an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. After much success, he moved nine years later to a location more central to his trading areas. Phoenix Brewery, Heywood!
Phoenix Brewery was registered in 1874, brewing directly from the Brewery tower and owning over 100 pubs in the local area. Phoenix’s history is still proudly displayed on our seven-story tower.
Building upon our strong foundations, we continue to brew Tony’s longstanding classic beers, whilst introducing innovative new brews. The team are looking forward to welcoming you to our Brewery site – soon to be open to the public for the first time in our history!
In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

[Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen] A pale yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet and citrusy hoppy - but quite light. The flavor is sweet grassy and hoppy with a very dry bitter end - it almost totally dries out the mouth. I’d call this a bitter ;-)

[Cask at Carlies Bar, Copenhagen] A slightly hazy orange beer with a thin slightly lazing off-white head. The aroma is slightly hoppy and slightly grassy. The flavor is extremely dry, with absolutely no sweetness and no alcohol, which makes it very thin - like a Danish light pilsener. A boring beer - order only a half.

Cask at Head of Steam, London Cracking classic light gold citrus beer. Got good grapefruit orange peal nose and then good tight acids coming along with exciting tangy hops with more citrus fruit on the end. Refreshing and wonderful

Gravity cask at Ashford Beer Festival. Orangey brown colour, american hop nose distinctive of Phoenix beers, some fruit malts some citrus, hoppy dry finish with more tangy hops. Like an american IPA but still good for all that

Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Mahogany colour. Dryish with rich coffee flavours and notes of plums, madeira. Light modied with mild mouthfeel. Grassy hops leads to a salty finish with good bitterness. Despite it’s low gravity it has a wide array of flavours. A fantastic mild that works well both as a beer to sip on and analyse, and as a beer that is pleasant to quaff in quantity.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Golden colour. Grass and butterscoth dominates this light, yet rounded and drinkable ale. It has soft mouthfeel and is strikingly hoppy with lingering bitter finish. A very good thirst quencher.
