Bottle at home in London - probably sourced from Kris Wines or something. Pours clear, rich amber-gold with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds well toasted crackers, caramelised sugars, pine, ripe orange. Medium sweet flavour with rich toasty-bready character, some further crackers, citrus peel, bitter and oily pine. Medium to full bodied with somewhat chewy texture and massaging carbonation. Resinous in the finish, oily and piney, with some grassy bitterness, toasted grains, wholegrain bread, more ripe citrus fruits, a bit of alcohol warmth. Decent stuff overall.

Cask at the Guildford Arms. Pours clear amber with a bubbly white head. Aromas of biscuit and caramel. Taste is more of the same. Merest tickle of herbal hops to balance things out. Clean finish. Easy drinking.

Cask at the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Amber/brown, a bit of white head. Looks very thin. Red berry and a touch of resin in the aroma with a good dose of forest floor. Nicely bitter in the taste becoming quite intensely bitter toward the aftertaste. Borders on acrid but the berry and earthy notes pad it out. Not one of Great Heck’s best although enjoyable enough.

Handpull cask at the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Mid to dark gold and very slightly hazy. A small white head on top with a fair bit of lacing. Fresh peach, grapefruit and a touch of soap in the aroma. Sweet fruity taste which us bookended by astringency in the start and the finish of the sip. Waxy bittersweet citrus in the aftertaste. Above average golden.
