Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Black colour, low head. Roasty aroma, hints of dark chocolate. Flavour is decidedly roasty with coffee notes, quite dry. Not very complex, but beats Guinness any day!

Bottled. Copper-colored with a nice beige head, and no carbonation. Piney hops, Cascade?, and some spicyness in the aroma. It has a weak, but nice citrus flavor and bitterness. Chalky mouthfeel and a bitter finish. (060428)

Bottle. Light brown colour with an off-white head. Aroma is roasted caramel and hop.Sweet roasted caramel and hop flavour. Bitter finish.

Cask, Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Aroma of roasted malt, some hop, laurel, licorice. Taste of roated malt again, quite bitter, laurel comes up again just as in guinness. Smooth mouthfeeling. Good stuff!

Poured an incredibly dark brown / black with a nice head that dissapated somewhat quickly. Tastes of smokiness and malts with a hint of coffee tones. My overall feeling is that this brew was too thin, almost watered down. It got my hopes up at first, but the taste never really delivered.

Poured a nice reddish-brown color with a moderate white head. Tasted of malts, some roastiness, carmels, coffe, and fruity. Not what I’d consider a barleywine - more of a scotch ale for sure.

Cask gravity at Dover BF 06. Copper, with off white head. Not a huge aroma, but I like the sweet white fruit which is fleshy. Fine

bottle - Barley wine? Why is it classified as that? It has far more in common with the McEwan’s Scotch Ale I had not too long ago than any barley wine I’ve tried. Anyway, I’m about the 100th person to point that out. As for the rating, the aroma is of faint malt and too noticeable alcohol. Flavor has some moderate malty sweetness with some dark fruit notes. The carbonation is light and the finish somewhat bitter and tastes mildly of alcohol. It’s a tastey brew.

Bottle Pours a clear mahogany with an average sized light tan head and sparce coarse laccing. Nice woody malt aroma, underhopped it seems for the style. Slightly sweet flaovrs of over ripe apples and pears. Dark malts and not very highly bittered. Fairly thin feel for the style and surprisingly high ABV for the taste.

Cask @ Bishop’s Arms, Malmö. Orange colour with small white head. Sulphurous yeasty aroma some bitterness and maltiness too. Fruity flavor with hints of caramel and malt. Some nice bitterness in the aftertaste. Does not taste like ABV 3.8%. Tastes better than it smells.
