Lots of melon, lush malts (honey, cookie, white bread) and huge, fruity-estery yeast. I get a bit of white grape from the Nelson before the Citra takes over in a rush of orange and mango juice. No alcohol in the nose and not much, if any, of the herbal Nelson that is less preferred to the white grape.
Similar to the nose with big melon and fat malts, leading to a bit of white grape before a Citra explosion of mango and orange juice/pulp. Bit of "dank", marijuana-like flavor on the finish. Dries out nicely with a very robust bitterness, but, while it's perfectly competent and quite drinkable for its size, with no alcohol, there's nothing overly interesting here.

Nicely prominent Motueka; always have good experiences with Freak Folk's treatment of this hop. Bright, lime-based fruit salad with soft mineral and gentle white wine. Citra boosts intensity while giving a citrusy edge and more tropical depth. Dainty cracker and honey-like malts gently balance. No alcohol, excess sugar or resin.
Maybe a bit more Citra-forward in the mouth than the nose, but still allows plenty of room for the Motueka. There's a peachy edge to the Citra, though, with a dry, almost chalky mineral that is either a whole lot of dry hop or some of these unusual hop products. The malt really shines here and I think, makes the beer, giving a rich honey impression before drying out significantly with cracker-like notes, so that the juice and sweet tropical/citrus character doesn't become unbalanced in concert with too much malt sweetness/succulence. Tons more white wine and mineral on the finish thanks to the fantastically well-done Motueka. This is up there with the best Motueka IPAs I've ever had.

Panda at home, thanks to the Wingmane, 15/03/2026.
Murky orange topped with an off white head that thins to the edge.
Nose is ripe melon, guava, pine resin, mango flesh.
Taste comprises raw pineapple, grass, stone fruit, lychee, mandarin.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy come lightly resinous hop bitterness allied to a mellow boost.
Solid.

Round, rich malt with a good, clean barley character giving honey and white bread. Not too much hop (though this is also almost 3 months old), but enough to satisfy, while leaving the yeast and malt front-and-center. I like the soft, fresh herb with no aggressive pepper. Bit of earthiness, touch of mustiness, as well. Feels quite authentic.
A bit hoppier in the flavor, or bitter, perhaps. Has a bit of black pepper melding with an apple-forward yeast. White bread and light honey from the malt easily support. Lingering hop bitterness with succulent, big fat malt, though not too sweet (rather bready). Very satisfying, malty beer. The hop bitterness helps refresh. Would like to see more drinkability stemming from the yeast/attenuation and less from hop bitterness, though.

Sweet malts and fruity, estery yeast with a vanilla-like character (not sure from where). Very juicy, soft, round, succulent with tropical fruit and fresh squeezed citrus. Bit of earthiness, minor white grape, but not as much exciting mineral and other desirables that you'd hope from all these NZ hops. No alcohol noted, nor resin.
A bit herby/peppery/spicy. Kind of Fidensesque, with good, but not overly assertive malts up front drying out heavily on the end. Citrusy, spicy, not all that juicy, honestly, and no real white wine nor much mineral. But for 9% there's no syrup or excess sugar and there's no alcohol noted.

Unlike just about every other terpene-containing beer I've had, this one doesn't beat you to death with them and doesn't smell like a glass full of marijuana. Combined with the sumptuous malts and the vanilla bean, the dry spice of the terpenes actually help balance, and are only a tasteful element here, far from the main theme of the beer. Some earth and white grape on the edges, but the main force here seems to be the Citra, showing juicy citrus, mango and peach. No alcohol or resin noted.
Peach terpenes maybe a touch more prevalent in the flavor, and their dry, almost bitter spiciness really goes a long way to drying out the beer. And Freak Folk never makes a sweet beer to begin with. But it is well-malted, as usual, and it stands up to the terpenes, with a cocktail of citrus and tropical fruit, leaning heavily peachy, of course. Vanilla bean is light, tastefully-done and there's a good balance of bitter hop, terpene, vanilla and succulent malt. Very compelling stuff; even if it's not my utmost favorite combination of flavors (and while this is definitely the best use of terpenes I've encountered, I still don't love them), I keep wanting to take another gulp. Very unique and certainly lives up to the experimental moniker.

Pours a hazy, grapefruit juice color, with smallish head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit. Flavor follows, but again with the big gust of butterscotch? I'm thinking this is not a one-off or a bad can, but a feature of this beer. Soft mouthfeel. Moderate hop bitterness in the finish.
