Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins for $12.99. I’ve been kind of intrigued about this since it medaled at GABF and finally pulled the trigger on a bottle with a gift certificate I got for Christmas. Slight gusher. Pours a hazy yellow appearance with a lasting, foamy off white head. Definitely a lot of cucumber in the nose along with some melon and herbal/weedy/greeny notes. High carbonation. Twangy, slightly funky, very green/weedy (kind of like a dandelion stem or green herbs), lemon, melon, pickle/cucumber flavor with a slightly acidic flavor. At first not entirely hard to drink, but quickly it becomes kind of annoying and not enjoyable. A novel idea and decent at first, but not something that is worth purchasing a 750mL bottle unless it’s being split into multiple glasses at a tasting. I’d imagine there wouldn’t be many repeat purchasers even if it’s not bad in small servings.

Bottle big thanks to James t clockwork at Dadsgiving, 24/11/13. Murky chestnut brown with little in the way of a head. Nose is tarte fruits, light smoke, burnt raisens, brown bread, spice, rotten apple skin. Taste comprises tarte berry fruits, dank burnt straw, funk, farmy, tarte fruit skins, damp wood, fruity balsams. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry tarte closure. Decent.

Bottle shared by me at Dadsgiving. Pours dark brown with off white head. Nose and taste of spice (probably mustard seed), honey, caramel, soured dark fruit and raisin. Sour malt. Medium body. Mild vinegar-like acidity. Good balance.

Wine glass draft at Freshcraft in Denver, Colorado. The pour is a hazed yellow light gold, with a crackly small white head. The aroma is soft lactic citrus sour nose, really develops as the beer warms. The taste has a nice bright, fresh orange / grapefruit citrus sour flavor. The palate is light to medium bodied, with spritzy carbonation and the bright clean sour finish. Nice stuff, straight forward, but well made and really easy to drink.

On tap at brewpub. Aroma is fairly hoppy with a moderate dank and woodsy note with background citrus and tropical fruit. Malt profile is medium light with caramel, honey and some cracker. Very similar aroma to Flo. Pours a slightly cloudy golden orange with a slight copper note. Small white head that recedes but a thin film lingers on tip and along the edges. Flavor has a light cracker and biscuit malt character with some cracker. High bitterness with a fairly resinous hop flavor. Light tropical fruit and citrus with some moderate dank notes. Medium alcohol note in the finish. Hop bitterness helps dry this out. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall an enjoyable big IPA, but it could use a bigger hip character. Especially in the flavor the hops are a lacking compared to the malt and alcohol. Could be a touch drier as well.

On nitro at brewpub. Aroma is fairly hop forward with a blend of English and american hops. Light caramel character. Fairly dank and earthy with wood notes but also a lot of citrus and light tropical fruit. Pours a cloudy orange with a moderately thick white head with good retention and lacing. Flavor is slightly sweet and malty with caramel notes and some cracker and light honey but the hops help dry out the finish. High bitterness with moderately high hop flavor. Hops are fairly citrus and tropical fruit forward but with a balanced pine resin and woodsy character in the background. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a fairly enjoyable IPA that plays the line between West Coast IPA and English IPA. A little malty for my preferences, but I like the hop profile. I am tired of IPAs that are all tropical fruit without any dank or woodsy notes and this one does a good job of combining them.

On tap at brewpub. Aroma is very Brett and gueuze forward with a surprisingly large amount of barnyard funk and oak. Light citrus and phenolic notes. Pours a cloudy pale yellow-gold with a moderately thick white head with average retention. Flavor is fairly acidic with a light acetic character and moderate amount of lactic acid. The acidity tastes a bit doctored, but isn’t too bad. Moderate lemon notes, but not much Brett character in aroma. Light wheat character. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low acidic astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a surprisingly good beer; I only wish the flavor lived up to the aroma. The acidity is a touch harsh, but pretty damn good for 7 days.

On tap at brewpub. Aroma is fairly floral with a nice phenolic valance of light pepper and coriander. Light pear and citrus esters. Pours a murky golden orange with a somewhat thin white head with average retention that lingers on the edges. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor has a light grainy sweetness with a moderately strong floral character. Light coriander and peppercorn notes come in at the end to balance the floral notes. Mid palate some light citrus and pear notes. Medium light bitterness with a light floral hop character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation; very silky mouthfeel. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very enjoyable beer with a nice mouthfeel and great water profile. Nice floral quality that isn’t too overwhelming and is well balanced by the phenolics.
