Gravity cask at GBBF 2011, Day 1. Pours clear brown with a light, filmy head. Big, sharp roast nose, some pine. More resinous, piney bitterness in the flavor, along with mild roasted malts and brown sugar. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Good ’n balanced. Solid effort.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 09/02/2011. Pours dark brown with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and hops. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, grassy hops and chocolate. The finish is piney hops up front with a charred chocolate malt aftertaste. One of the better Tommyknocker beers I have tried, which unfortunately is not saying much.

Third pint, gravicask, one of the better ones from the USA Cask Ale Bar at GBBF this year. Shiny black surface to a deep, black body. Aroma of dark sweet malts with hops lurking in the back. Harmonious taste of sweet grainy malts and ripe oranges. Lingering bitter finish. Velvet mouth feel. Well balanced and likable (London, 02.08.2011).

Location: 12 oz bottle from a small store in Hoboken, 8/30/11

Aroma: The nose is pumpkin and spice mostly, with some other sweet notes as well
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color, with a light orange hue, small head, and light lace
Flavor: Tastes similar to the nose, lots of spice & pumpkin, malty, medium sweet, mild earthy hop
Palate: The body is medium, it has a average (plus) carbonation, and a sticky mouthfeel
Overall Impression: My first Pumpkin beer of the 2011 Pumpkin beer season! I have mixed feelings whenever Pumpkin beer season starts, becuase I love Pumpkin beer, but it also signifies the end of summer (even more so for me then the upcoming Monday off that is happening next week). As for the beer, I'm rater #5 of this one, so I guess it is a new one this season. If that's the case they should keep making it, because this is a very nice Pumpkin beer. It has a really nice flavor and a good drinkability. A very nice first pumpkin beer of the year.

Bottle @ home. Fairly clear, brown/orange appearance with a tan head. Moderately spicy, roasted pumpkin, caramel malty nose. Caramel/toffee malty, spicy cinnamon/nutmeg, roasted pumpkin, earthy hoppy flavor. Pretty solid pumpkin beer though a little spicy which is to be expected from the style.

Cloudy dark brown color, heavy lacing in the glass. Had a nose bursting with lemony and perfumed hops. The initial sip took me by surprise with the dark malts coming to the fore, very mild roast with some chocolate and nuttiness, quickly followed by resiny hop flavors and a balanced finish. Soft, full palate.

Medium to dark brown pour with an off-white head. Aroma is sugary sweet malts, toasted, maple, caramel. Flavor is heavy on the caramel malts, toast, light maple, too. Super sweet back-end. Hard to finish this one.

Cask at GBBF 2011. It pours darkest brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is smoke, caramel, toffee, treacle and liquorice. The taste is filter coffee, treacle, liquorice, tar, leather, nut and alcohol warmth, with a bitter-dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Nice.
