Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark caramel-brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was caramel, molasses, raisin and nut. The flavor was bitter and nutty with light notes of nutmeg, molasses, pepper, and wood. There was a semi-sweet and roasty malt base. The finish was long and complex. Medium body. Interesting.

Deep dark ruby, copper and amber tinted body with a thin, fast-dying tan head, a very nice look, especially when held up to a light. Aroma of super strong oak scents with more wood in the nose than anything else, but some raisins, concord grapes, figs and a bit of malt come through. Full, perhaps Medium-bodied; Effervescent mouthful at first with a big bite of oak at first, then fades to a lighter spiciness, some pungent fruits, a touch of alcohol and a dry, woodsy and herbal flavour near the end. Aftertaste shows some complexity, but largely taken over by the oak and pitted fruits. Overall, a nice interesting beer with some good flavours and some rather pungent and strong tastes. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 07-October-2011.
