Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours deep brown with a frothy beige head. Rich bready malts in huge nose, some faint berry tang, hints of cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with strong earthy bitterness, some burnt grass, light cocoa, dried berries. Medium to full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Bitter finish, some baking cocoa, more earth, light ash. Novel stuff.

Bottle shared at level 42. It pours darkest brown with a thick tan head. The nose is earthy, musty, earthy roast, charred wood, chewy, fruit cake, umami, marmite and cocoa. The taste is rich roasted malt, earthy, umami, chewy action, toast, alcohol warmth, charred wood, liquorice, Eccles cake and a hint of dark fruits with a dry, roasted finish. Medium - full body and moderate carbonation. Good depth and well-rounded. Good fun.

Bottle split at the level 42 tasting, big thanks to Fergus, 16/02/16. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap that dissipates to edgeing. Nose is chocolate, bitter orange, light roast, caramel. Taste comprises cocoa powder, caramel biscuit, light roast, treacle, fruited tickle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close, light mineral and hop in the close. Decent well balanced porter.

Bottle from Cornelius. It pours hazy deep brown with a thick off-white head. The nose is malt - driven, bitter - sweet, brown bread, fruit cake, toffee, chocolate, dried fruits and earth. The taste is rich, brown bread, earth, wood, lightly toasted nuts, must, touch of spice, fruit cake, cacao nibs and chewy malt with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Decent malty beer, but lacks the wow factor many of their beers have.

Bottle. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn coloured head. Nose - chocolate and raisins. Prunes. Taste - creamy but dark chocolate. Dried fruit, particularly raisins and dried orange peel. Dark treacle notes too. Palate - rich and full bodied with a creamy texture. The finish is still rich bit very balanced. Overall - a lovely imperial porter.
