12oz bottle-pours a thick, light brown head that reduces. Black color with red tones. Aroma is strong coffee, malt. I know the label says: Cocoa. Taste is strong coffee, cocoa, malt, good carbonation. Coffee aftertaste. Not my usual taste, but well done. Best by 4/9/06.

I have had this beer a few times over the last couple of years. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very cloudy dark apricot color with small floaters and a small foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma is very sweet with a strong tangy candied fruit element and moderate sourdough bread. The flavor is strong sweet sugar with candied fruits, sourdough bread, clove and honey. Long finish with a mild alcohol burn. The body is moderately thick. Well done.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark creamy head with good retention. Aroma of sweet caramel malt is easily distinguishable. Taste is also dominated by what I believe to be the oatmeal, which brings lots of sweetness. The level of hops seems low and bitterness is really low. Body is above average but not as full as I would have expected for an imperial stout. Alcohol is well hidden and no trace could be detected. I very much enjoy that one thought it probably does not fit its style entirely.

2005 bottle consumed on 11/10/05. Well-formed white head atop a lemonade-colored body (hint of lime-green). Chill haze and bottle conditioned. Aroma of sweaty hops, light, sour malted grains, some biscuit hints and a touch of fruity lemon bitterness. Flavor shows a fair range of malt ranging from grainy, lightly toasted notes, to dry biscuity notes and a hint of honey. Quite sweaty hops in the flavor, with a touch of dry herbs. Maybe too biscuity and grainy overall, and could stand some more honey and spicier hops notes, but then, that would probably turn it in to a different beer. Quick, crisp, clean finish with an engaging carbonation and a touch of lager yeast bite to it.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 05. Cloudy orange/copper colour with lasting beige head. US strong IPA typical nose. Lots of hops, grapefruit and some chocolate limes. Good in mouth with full velvety feel. Very intense flavours but some softness. The finish is a bit one dimensional, but overall a pleasing US strong IPA

Bottle consumed on 10/20/2005. Pours a amber-copper color, with a nice glowing blood orange sheen to it. Clear, with a small, fizzy off-white/beige colored head that quickly recedes to ring. Medium-sized bubbles rise. Hard to tell if this is bottle conditioned or force-carbonated. The flavor/mouthfeel suggests forced-carbonation, though not overly so. Strange, I can usually tell pretty easily. Aroma just pours on the berry skins. Pure, sweet/tart blackberries and boysenberries. Strange, only one other person on this page talks about berries in the nose. That’s pretty much all I smell, but everyone interprets things differently, so I guess it’s not so strange. Maybe some dry toffee in the background as well. Flavor is VERY dry, probably overattenuated, though I’m no judge, so I honestly don’t know where the attenuation should be. But this has got to be like 90% attenuated. The alcohol lurks in the shadows. Nuts and berries with some light hops and a good deal of fruitiness. Very dry and lightly bready on the finish. Again, not terribly crisp on end, not nearly what I would like it to be, anyways. Mouthfeel is tending towards sharp carbonation, otherwise fairly uneventful. Body is medium-light.

Hazy light amber colour. Earthly, lightly grapefruity hop in the nose. The flavour is fairly sweet, with rich caramel. They almost gets cloying, these malts. Light tropical fruit and jolly rancher fruit notes kick around a bit underneath of the sweetness. A little bitterness going on, but it’s overwhelmed.
