Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Awesome appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke/char, light licorice/raisin, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke/char, light licorice/raisin, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke/char, light licorice/raisin, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely amazing Russian imperial stout. All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. An insanely delicious offering.

Pour is a clear golden with a large white head. Aroma is a bit of honey, some yeast esters but not much and not much else. Flavor is better with some spicy hops, a dry palate cleansing pale malt and just an ever so slight fruity yeast ester. Not a terribly complex saison. Just decent enough to pick up a bottle to see what the English hops bring to the beer but not enough yeast or peppery spice to make this a top flight saison.

Pours a black-brown from a bottle with a coffee ice cream colored head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is of chocolate, flavor is primarily cola, some chocolate, slightly smoky but really not that much. A little too effervescent and acidic. Good beer.
