Crisp, slightly hazy golden coloured body with a wheatie, unfiltered glow and a thin, one centimetre tall white head with bunches of bubbles coming from the bottom. Aroma of nice pale malt, strong citrus, metal, sweetness and a touch of grass, herbal notes and hay. Medium-bodied; Assertive malty notes with a little metal, some alcohol, citrus, caster sugar and fruit noticeable. Aftertaste is a bit deeper with a lot of alcohol burn noticeable for the style, some metal, a lot of malt and some lighter herbal and grassy hop flavours to finish it off. Overall, a nice, but relatively strong beer showing mostly good flavours, but some deep and strong flavours that don’t work great for a summer beer - good thing I’m drinking it on an almost 60 degree F WINTER day! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 09-September-2011 for US$8.39 sampled at home in Washington on 18-February-2012, bottled in June 2011.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha micro head with good retention conglomerates as it recedes leaving sheet lacing. Dark caramel aromas. Sweet chocolate and dark caramel upfront turning to dry smoke before the lasting earthy resin finish.

Old rating from this past summer. Smell is bready, some caramel, citrus zest, taste is pretty similar with a little booze.

Dark oily pour, boozy aroma of brown sugar. The alcohol is much better hidden than I would have thought from the aroma. Really good.

Keg at Brouwerij Lane, Brooklyn. I had this beer along with Bruery Cuir, FW XV, Avery Hog Heaven, and BFM Terrapin Spike Jerome, and this beer was easily the best of the three for both me and my drinking buddy, Seth. The others were simply too overtly sweet or boozy, or both. Pours dark ruby with a creamy head. Berries and bread in the aroma. Big sweet flavor, lots of berries and ripe fruit, light alcohol, bread, toasty sugars. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lots of ripe, mixed berries to finish, mild warmth, dark sugars, sweet bread. The alcohol really isn’t too intense. A great beer.

Bottle 22fl.oz.Unclear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, orange, moderate yeasty, riped fruit. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and smooth, carbonation is soft. [20120121]

Bottle at DSG 2011. Golden-orange colour with a white head. Aroma is fruit, sugar, belgian yeast, lemon. Flavour is fruit, belgian yeast, hop, sugar, lemon. Nice beer.

Bomber from City Beer. Pours really dark ruddy copper with a slight, transient beige/tan head. Aroma is definitely malty, but there’s a lot of complex aroma bits here. Maybe chocolate is one. Roast malt another. Very full bodied. Heat is detectable, but not an issue. Flavor is? There’s very sweet malt; and surely chocolate. BUT BANANA? And a heck of a lot of floral. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is nutty, molasses, a bit sweet, and light fruit. Flavor is mostly nutty with late molasses and sweet toasted malts. Creamy body. I love a good brown ale and this is a good brown ale.
