Sampled from the barrel at NotB. Poured a hazy light wooden brown with a tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a note of musty wood that was joined by sweet grains, candied sugar and a hint of dark fruit/floral notes. Flavor had a relatively strong dark fruit note with the same musty wood note and backing sweet grains/candied sugar.

Bottle thanks to Reakt. It pours a hazy ruby red colour with a fizzy beige head. The nose is sticky fruits, raisin, pear, caramelised banana and burnt sugar. The taste is raisin, banana bread, fig, sweet plum, brown sugar, caramel and toffee, with a long sweet finish. It is medium bodied, has moderate carbonation and a sticky mouth-feel. A bit too sweet for my taste.

Bottle, 22oz, courtesy of fonefan. A hazy, golden-orange beer with a fine, off-white head leavings lacings. Grassy, herbal hops with a piney touch in the aroma. Yeast notes too. Some sugary maltyness, but not too much in any way. Physalis hints. It has a nice bitterness in the mouth, a touch of sugary malts too, but it’s overall quite dry. Medium body. Lasting finish with good bitterness. A quite nice one, doing well with the British hops. 110320

Bottle 22fl.oz. @ home.Clear dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige brown head. Aroma is light heavy malty, caramel, chocolate, light heavy hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, orange - citrus. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dark licorice - licorice (piller). Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110314]

On tap at Deep Ellum, Boston, Mass last October. An amber coloured pour with a small white head. Hoppy, fruity aroma. Tastes hoppy, fruity, bitter and quite dry. Reminded me of an average English real ale back home in Blighty.

Bottle at Paradiso Dupont. Aroma of butterscotch and alcohol. Taste is thick, sweet, syrupy caramel with a complexity far greater than most barleywines. Nice stuff.

So I was in Boston in the morning, but had this beer in DC in the afternoon. Go figure. Some day I hope it will be available here legitimately. Greg billed this one as a black IPA, and it certainly had a nice hop profile, and of course the color was consistent. Overall a very solid beer.

Bomber at Publick House. Purple brown color. Aroma of black pepper and caramel. Taste is thick, sweet and peppery. Very nice.

22 oz. bottle, pours murky dark orange with an off-white head. Aroma of English malts, intense hops, floral notes and caramel. Flavour is intensely bitter, with English-style hops dominating with little malt to be detected. Way unbalanced, but still good for what it is.
