Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a huge medium brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with notes of toffee and light residual sugar with light funky yeast notes. Taste is also a complex mix between some light funky yeast with heavy caramel malt with balanced residual sugar in the aftertaste – I don’t know if it is the color or what else but I almost had the feeling of drinking a stout though I knew full well it wasn’t. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very interesting beer with no real appurtenance to any style I know.

Slightly hazy copper coloured body with a thick dense tan head and a lot of bubbles at first - not so many after a few seconds. Aroma of VERY pungent bread, yeast, wort and a little light hops, some caramel too - but a lot of yeast notes. Medium-bodied; Pungent floral hop note with some grassy and herbal kick behind with a little malt, a lot of bitterness and some yeast flavours at the end. Aftertaste shows more of a bitter note with the hops most prevalent, some malt and a good bit of caramel and toffee. Overall, a good representation of the british style with a funky nose, but makes up for it in the aftertaste (it actually has flavour!) and the look - the head lasts forever. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Charles St. Liquors in Boston, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010 for US$6.45, sampled at home in Washington on 04-February-2011.

Bottle: Poured a bright light copper color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of Belgian malt with light fruity notes. Taste is quite enjoyable with nice notes of Belgian-style malt with some light fruity ester and some residual sugar. Body is full with a somewhat oily texture and good carbonation. Not as floral or spicy as envisioned but very interesting nonetheless.

Golden with a small white head. Aroma of exotic fruit, hers and spice and some biscuit maltiness. Dry and fruity, with grassy and heral hops and a very bitter finish. An American saison that’s dry like a true Belgian. That doesn’t happen often, well done!

Hazy amer with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of grassy and wooden hops with a hint of malt. Dry and hoppy flavour, mostly grassy. The English hop character is there, but the bitterness is a bit over done and ends up with an acrid finish
