Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Bottled. A very dark brown beer with a red shine under a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, wood, and berries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt combined with medium notes of wood, dextrose, and malt, leading to dry, woody, and bitter finish.

tough to figure out at first, which seems to be a theme for pretty things, and after meeting Dan and his wife at a tasting, i can see why. i think its about opening peoples minds about what beer is and what it can be. i suppose i went into this one with a preconceived notion of how it would be after reading the label and seeing that it was made with dried plums. the flavor at first was not my thing, the dark fruit flavor, but after a few sips i really took to it and relaxed and enjoyed it for what it is, a new old beer that is taking the reins of what we’ve had before in a apt/quad and extending it to something that will not be boring or normal. very enjoyable.

Bottle shared with jcwattsrugger. Pours semi-hazy reddish peach with off white head. Nose and taste of honey, caramel malt, pineapple and dried fruits. Almost an "imperial" mild given the ABV. Quite a good beer. Reminded me of a "light" barleywine.

22 oz bottle. Clear golden with a dense white head. Aroma is spicy and a bit perfumed with cane sugar. Flavor is fresh and sweet at the same time, fruity, spicy and relatively bitter. Medium body with a long and bitter aftertaste. A bit unusually, almost like Brett whiteout the barnyard.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours really dark brown with a foamy beige/tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with some light malt and hop. Med plus body with foamy carb. Flavor starts chocolate and goes a bit woody as the chocolate leaves. Starts sweet finishes pretty dry. I think some coffee comes out eventually. Nice drink.

Bomber - clear amber pour - minimal head, but substantial considering the abv - sweet toffee aroma, with a surprising tartness of semi-ripe fruits, like apple, cherry - some citrus peel - underlying notes of fig - slightly oily mouthfeel, with stronger carbonation than the appearance suggests - very sweet, bordering on syrupy, with deeply caramelized sugars - spicy alcohol and mild hop bite counters this, but the sweetness is center stage throughout, as you would expect in such a strong bw - some treacle notes, fig, raisin - a very mild hint of smoke - full flavor, but fairly mellow considering, reminding me of some of the more classic american and british examples - still a little cloying, so it could use a few years on it before becoming really great, but this is fairly impressive for something so strong and so young - another few years and I’ll probably score it in the low 4 range.

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a quite clear body, golden in color. A small white head sits on top leaving lacings. Very hoppy on the nose, resins and citrus peel, with some white sugar and fruityness. Fruity and bitter flavor, some residual sweetness too. A flowery touch and citrus peel blends in. Full body and nice carbonation level. Lasting, bitter finish. Not the typical saison maybe, but damn tasteful and moreish. 101210
