Hand-pulled half-pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates on 1st May 2014, one of thirty four hand-pulls to choose from. This is one of the breweries ’Single Hop’ series, Bouclier being a fairly new French variety. I don’t normally like ’single hop’ beers often finding them one dimensional and boring, this however was far from one dimensional and boring. Golden, pale gold really, with a white head. Very floral in the nose, perfumed and interesting. The taste followed nicely, again with a pleasant floral feel. Different and interesting, I really enjoyed it.

Cask @ The Fox, Willian. Pale gold with a thin head and a thin body but with just about enough hoppy tropical fruits to give a pleasant taste.

Cask @ Engineers Arms, Henlow. Golden with a respectable white head. Somewhat lively. Aroma of lemon, hay, soap. Not getting the Cascade at all. Sour/bitter taste with an unfortunate bitter aftertaste. Not good, I had much higher hopes for this. Think it might have been the end of the barrel?

Cask @ Bedford Arms, Bedford. Light brown with a thin white head. Generous lacing on the glass. Lovely scent of floral and citrus hops. Gorgeous. Taste is full-on sweet at first, only turning to bittersweet in the finish. This is a very nice pint, especially in light of the session ABV.

Cask @ Bedford Arms, Bedford. Light ruddy brown, thin with a bit of wispy beige head. Pleasant aroma of raisins, malt, toast. Taste is a crisp sweetness with a lingering bittersweet finish. Pleasant but not overly engaging, one to try and then move on methinks.

Gravity dispense at the Happy Man Spring Beer Festival, 14/03/14. Clear golden with a good sized off white head of bubbles. Nose is tangy citric fruit, bread dough, tangerine, straw, toasty ring. Taste comprises bitter orange, hop notes, toasty come pale maltings, light caramel, hint of vanilla. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent GB - nice sessionable stuff carrying a noticeable hop presence.

(Cask at O’Connel’s, Tampere, 20140308) The beer poured nearly mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was small, dense, white and it lasted long. Aroma had toffee, sweetness, earth and malts. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, earth, toffee, malts, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, malty and bitter. A clean bitter.
