Description
The Hecks family have been making traditional farmhouse cider in Somerset for six generations, since 1841.

In 1896, we started to sell our cider from our farm shop in Street.

We make our cider by blending juice from apples all grown locally in the farm’s orchards. The cider is fermented in wooden barrels and sold draught from the wood.

Bottled from lowcostbeer. This batch at 6.5%. Clear gold, no head. Aroma has a light yeastiness and vinaigrette apple juice. Very dry, leathery apple juice with woody notes. Somewhat light bodied but actually that helps contrast against the dryness. It grew on me but still an acquired taste.

Bottled by lowcostbeer. Clear gold, still. Aroma of wood, stewed apples, light vinegar. Taste of tangy apples, leather, vanilla, semi-sweet middle with drying close. Slick near medium bodied. Its ok, more balanced than the dry version.

250ml bottle from Rich's Cider Farm, Highbridge. Aroma has sweet honey with a bitter boozy edge. Clear amber. Head is limited to a few translucent bubbles which then shrink away. Sweet with a bitter edge. Booze. Honey, of course. Slightly veg notes. Thick bodied. Slick to oily. Flat-soft carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Enjoyable warming stuff... especially as I am coming down with a head cold right in time for Chertsey.

Bag-In-Box. Deep golden colour with no head. Aroma is sweet apples, some wood, mild tartish tones as well as some herbs. Flavour is mainly sweet apples, some tartish green apple skins as well as some wood and mild minerals to it. Nicely dry wooden finish.
