Cask at The Bow Bar. Pours black as midnight on a moonless night. Tight brown head. Massive coffee and liquorice nose, some charcoal. taste - it’s a chewy fella and no mistake! Not one for 5.30pm on an empty stomach... Still... big liquorice and roast coffee, dark chocolate bitter like an old flame gone to pot. And you’re still doing all right, aren’t you? Damn straight. Don’t need you back in my life.

Cask at the Craven Arms; clear straw yellow pour with frothy white head, slight grapefruit aroma, nice crisp citrus hop taste with some pale malts, and a decent level of bitterness.

Cask @ the brewpub. Very dark, aroma is roast, rich dark sugars like intense muscovado and okinawan black, and maybe a little bit of fruit. Light body is slightly oily, with molassesy character and a bit of barrel char. Complex, flavoursome porter that surely ranks as one of the best in Britain.

Reddish-brown. Earthy - almost treacly nose, herbal and slightly fruity taste. Good balance.

Bottle at Craig’s from Alesela. Pours hazy brown with a thin white head. Basically, as with a lot of beers aged this way, it’s like chewing a piece of wood. And if you like doing that, you’ll like this. The beer underneath is obliterated.
