A family-run craft brewer. Trevor Harris and his wife Kes set up Derby Brewing Company in 2004, they are now semi-retired but still keep a close eye on the beer! Their son Paul is currently the managing director.

[ As Derby Rye’t On ].Clear medium orange yellow color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, rye, moderate hoppy, citrus, fruity hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration´, rye, citrus - tangerine, orange, tropical fruit. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20160220]

Bottle from Alesbymail. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity and moderate hoppy - grass and citrus. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 060516

[ As Derby The Hopfather ].Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy - fizzy and open, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, moderate hoppy, fruity, peach. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, sweet malt, fruity malt, fruity, peach. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. Half pint, keg at Derby Tap. A small beige head to a deep black-ruby coloured body. Dark malty aroma, nicely roasted. taste of dark dough, liquorice and bitter coffee grounds to the finish. Smooth on the palate. Pleasant (Derby 18.02.2016).

Cask at the Wellington. It pours darkest brown with medium light tan head. The nose is earthy, liquorice, umami, oily, date and plum. The taste is bitter, earthy, liquorice, umami, touch of acidity, coffee grounds and ash with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and limited carbonation. Decent mild?!

Cask at the Wellington - Birmingham. Pours clear, red-brown with a frothy tan head. Toasty bread in the nose, some dark malts, earth. Medium sweet flavor with nice ripening berries, brown bread, leather, light cocoa. Light bodied with average carbonation; nice condition. Good balance on the finish, more mellow cocoa, earthy bitterness and dried and leathery fruits. Solid.
