Alaskan Brewing Company
Microbrewery
in Juneau,
Alaska,
United States 🇺🇸
Associated Venue: Alaskan Brewing Company
Established in 1986
In 1986, 28-year-olds Marcy and Geoff Larson reignited that tradition when they opened the Alaskan Brewing Company, the 67th independent brewery in the country and the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed here during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber recipe to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaskan beers reflect Juneau’s local brewing history and innovation.

12 oz. can from Juneau, Alaska. Pours a crystal clear gold color with an eggshell colored head and great retention. Decent lacing. Standard hoppy aroma for an IPA. Bitter hops flavor throughout with a long finish. Nothing unique here. Not my style. Medium body and medium+ carbonation. Tick.

12 oz. can from Juneau, Alaska. Pours an opaque yellow-gold color with a large white head and great retention. A few spots of lacing. Citrus/juicy aroma. Citrus flavor dominates with a tart pale malt finish. A little too tart, and not beery enough for my tastes. Light body. Medium-light carbonation. No bitterness.

Draft at the brewery in Juneau, Alaska. Pitch black color with a small beige head. As expected, it has a smoky aroma with a hint of molasses. I taste the smoked flavor, but not much porter flavor. Light molasses flavor too, which becomes more pronounced as it warms. Medium body and low carbonation. Low bitterness for 45 IBU.

Draft at the brewery in Juneau, Alaska. Crystal clear light yellow color with a small white head. No aroma, all I smell is the brewery itself. Good lacing. Light and easy drinking. Not very hoppy. This could easily pass for a light lager. Smooth, crisp, and clean. Very easy drinking. Good flavor for a light beer.

12 oz can from Beerhead. Light wheat beer smell, with a hint of spice. Pours a golden beer with tiny floaties instead of haze, under thick bubbly head. Pouring the whole can into the glass dislodges some sediment. Uncomplicated beer taste with a hint of cardamon.Pleasant Belgian style, slightly generic, but still a step up from a Fat Tire or Shock Top.

Amber with a large foamy white head that left good lacing. Musty, grainy and yeasty with a coriander note. Medium finish and body.

Aromas are a blend of old citrus and resin hops with a bit of cardboard. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose, on the sweet side up front, a little stone fruit comes out. Low bitter, full body with slightly soft carbonation. Forgetable.
