Description
We at Downton Brewery dare to be different!; Brewing an eclectic range to excite the senses is our goal, and has been ever since we began brewing in 2003. With a passionate team, using the best ingredients, we hope you enjoy the beers as much as we do!

Our philosophy is to utilise the best ingredients creating a variety of styles to delight every drinker. English malts and exciting hop varieties from around the world are blended and experimented with in a range of regulars and one-off specials alike. As well as award-winning session bitters, our hop forward APAs, Imperial Stout and IPA and speciality ales ensure there is plenty of choice all year round.

Bottle with and courtesy of Grumbo. Aroma of hoppy, chalk, grain, citrus and grapefruit. Watery and rough finish with dry bitterness. A bit disappointing

Cask at Prince of Wales, Birmingham. Clear gold, small smooth white top, good lacing. Pale grainy malt with floral sweetness, light biscuit, hint of grapefruit zest. Light to medium bodied, drying. Decent enough.

On handpull at the Cartwheel. Pours mostly clear straw. Hedgerow, tropical, little pineapple, wet bread. Nice soft body. Decent enough.

7/12/2024. Bottle bought at Boojam & Snark, Sandown. Pours black with a frothy tan coloured head. Aroma is black treacle, dark chocolate, liquorice, roasted malt. Moderate sweetness, quite heavy roasted bitterness, quite drying. Medium body, quite fizzy.

Cask, third pint. @Nottingham Beer Festival 2024, Nottingham (England). 12/10/2024 [#7.949 Global - #1.014 England - #2 Downton Brewery] Pours hazed pale yellow with a tiny and bubbly white head. Aroma: citrusy, buttery malts. Taste: buttery and citrus. Grainy palate. Next one, please!

23/11/2024. Bottle from Boojum & Snark, Sandown, IoW. Pours clear copper gold with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is chalky, stewed fruits, flowery, caramel, biscuit, tinned lychee. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body. Prickly carbonation. Heavy work.

Aroma: mixed grains, yeast and floral hops. Taste: floral and yeasty. Grainy palate. Next one, please!

Hand-pulled half-pint at a beer festival in the Anvil (Shifnal, Shropshire) on 11th October 2024. Clean golden pour, white crown. An interesting hybrid sort of beer to me, half lager, half pale ale, enjoyed it.

Cask at the excellent Trafalgar Freehouse 09/08/2024 Fresh fruity and malty aroma and taste, subtle notes of melon, white grape, light citrus lemony kiss, straw, pale bready malts, lovely soft cask carb and mouthfeel, refreshing bitter hoppy finish. Lovely and in great condition, perfect for this weather.

12/7/2024. Cask at the 33rd Ealing Beer Festival. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head. Aroma is mucky, citrus, straw, horse blanket. Moderate sweetness, quite heavy bitterness. Moderate body, oily and watery, average soft carbonation. Tasted okay but aroma was not good.
