Cask @ Market Porter, Southwark, London SE1. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with some hoppy hints. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste.

Bottle no. 03076 from the 2008 vintage, purchased at the beer8 in Genoa and shared with heavy Aww, heavy’s first BW, cute :p. Poured a murky dark red-orange body with no head. Dry malty nose, strong notes of dried figs, sweetish, notes of caramel too. The taste is, as expected, sweet and malty again, ending with a dry woody wall, with some bitterish notes. Coffee could be felt earlier on too. Light notes of toffee and something else (damn my handwriting). Complex and nice. Slighty saly at times. Very nice.

Cask, JDW, West Kirby. Dark copper colour with a lingering medium sized creamy off white head. Fruity aroma, fairly understated. Sweetish flavour that had a caramel malt spine with redcurrant and raisin notes. Gently bitter finish. Reasonable enough stuff.

A 2008 vintage. Rich delicious malt. Some porty and brandy tones. Sumptuos. Liked this young version much much more than all the older vintages I’ve tasted which seem to be marmite bombs regardless of which year or even decade they come from! 3.7.

A 2004 vintage courtesy of Keen. Cheers Mate! Clear amber beer, no head. Sweet sherry and port, dried fruits and a little caramel. All really well joined up. Delicious!

Cask-conditioned at the Lloyds No 1, Bristol 18/11/09. Reddish-amber with a slight white head. Malty aroma, with a hint of earthy roastiness. Flavour had some sweetish malts, nuttiness and a dry finish. Good.

Cask at the Old Fountain, London on 4th November 2009. Dark ruby with off-white head leaving a ring of foam around sides of glass. Burnt malt/smoke aroma; very fruity main kick with strong raspberry notes and some spice, akin to a Belgian Frambozen. The finish continues on a fruity theme; an alcoholic note is also present in the finish, all delivered on a mildly textured mouthfeel. A different, and pleasant, well-crafted stout.

2007 Bottle - thanks oteyj. Light mahoghany pour with a thin beige head. Rich aroma of citrus and fruits, perhaps some grape? Sweet candied sugar and more citrus. The taste is so smooth and balanced, nothing jumps out right away. A huge, thick and creamy body. Faded hops, citrus, light florals, and more candied sugar. Just blended so well. Very nice.

Bottle 2004 vintage. Hazy deep brown pour with small head. Sweet, dark fruit, boozy aroma. Tastes very sweet, dark fruits, malty, heavy, caramel, banana. A quality port like brew. This bottle seemed incredibly sweet too me.

best before 06-01-2008, tasted 18-oct-2009. hazy amber, smooth thick almost white head. Looks fantastic. mild, slightly sour, "old beer" , flowery aroma. flavor is mild, slighlty bitter, flowery, spicy, licorice, however the age has taken its toll on the beer. "old beer" flavor is evident amongst the nicer intended flavors in the beer. i guess the conclusion is : don’t age this one past its best before date ;-)
