Bottle: Dark chestnut colored pour with a thin ring of sandy head. Aroma is standard fare; oak, lightly vinous, and sour. Flavor is adds in more fruity elements and some candied Belgian sugar. Mellower than the nose would suggest. Ok overall and pretty tame compared to the studs in this style, but certainly refreshing.

This is a blurry deep raw red-brown one with a small lightly sidesticking woody-brown head. It has a light caramelly-sweet aroma, some dusty chocolate in here, I also get some dark black ripe berries here. Not extreme, and my nose is getting all sorts of other smoky and perfumy aromas from the people sitting next to me, but I found the aroma in the beer quite nice. Oh, it was a really sweet one! Reminds me of a faro-lambic! Sugar syrup, not any bitterness to speak home about, hints of something acidic in here also. Not especially good, but this is one of those beers I will remember more of the story behind getting it - not so much for the flavor itself. 30.05.2012

Bottle from Venerables. Clear brown colour, beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, candy sugar, fruits. Flavour is caramel malts, fruity, brown sugar, bit of spices. Sweet finish. All in all quite artificial, made like a mediocre parody on a dubbel.

This 33cl bottle has been hanging around my shelves for some time and I thought it time to release it. I popped it into the fridge and here we are. So on a sunny evening in early June 2010 I poured the bottle into a ’forbidden fruit’ badged chalice. The beer poured a deep dark ruby red colour, an off-white almost tan coloured head sat on top for about 10 seconds before becoming a collar and wispy covering. The smell was of semi-sour/semi-sweet old cherries without the pips and hints of something to come. I am not a big fan of the Belgian sourpuss beers (check out some of my reviews, I’ve had plenty), so I was pleasantly pleased to find this wasn’t one of those vinegarous brews. This hoovers just above sour and could almost be called sweet by some, I’ll go for ’bordering on toothsome’. The sweetness does appear to get sweeter as the beer warmed, which isn’t good, but I enjoyed the beer from start to finish. Not your regular Flanders Red, but one of the best in my eyes.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, huge rocky head. Aroma is bit metallic and grainy malt with some belgian yeast esters. When the bad aroma’s have disappeared some decent ginger and orange perfumes arise. Only slightly bitter taste, again the hint of cardboard. Only a faint hint of fruity hop taste. Bit boring.
