Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

Canned 8/21. Red, no head. 3- Sharp aroma with plump berries, wood. Softer texture than suggested by the aroma and a little residual sweetness too, so that the acidic notes of the aroma aren't harsh. Nice berries. Long sour finish drifts slowly towards wood and stems. Good.

Light brown. Tart, fruity, orange, bourbon -a mess but not a bad mess. Tart, fruity, dark fruits, deep rich fruits on this. Yeah sloppy but not half bad.

A deep dark purple ale with a thin rosey head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light acidity, Brett, light lactic notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity mix of ground cherry, raspberry, light lactic notes, very nice.

On tap at E9 Gastropub, pours a deep dark brown with a tiny head. Nose brings out plenty of dates, tart fruits, Christmas spices, and a hint of bourbon. Flavour is minimally acidic (for Cascade), with lots of dates, bourbon, some balsamic, and oak. All sorts of clashing notes but somehow it works. Spicy, dark fruity and oaky finish. Good for what it is.

Draught (as Sang Rouge 2015). Reddish black (coca-cola) coloured with a small off-white head. Aroma is wooden, some red wine, mild tartness as well as some red berries and mild chocolaty and nutty elements too. Flavour is tart wood, some berries, chocolate, mild red wine like notes with a bit of raspberies too. Nicely dry palate, and the sourness in the aftertaste is just lovely.

Canned on 22FEV2216:23. Ok....Drunk 8/30/23. Clear, blonde-apricot flesh. Small, white head to ring. Oh baby, juicy apricot galore with big brett and mellow lactic acidity. Easygoing oak. Juicy apricot, bursts of bright acidity including light acetic, but it's pretty low overall. Lots of mellow lactic and mild brett with cringeworthy acidity on the finish, but excellent flavors and juicy, authentic apricots.
