Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

Can to tulip glass. Pours murky purple with an off white head that lingers. Flavor and aroma is overt dark berry. Slight vanilla and solid tart aspects.

Amber. Slight haze. Thin head. Tart, fruity aroma. On the palate it's like this odd acetic yoghurt with rosemary.

12 oz canned Jan 11, 2022, drunk 8/18/23. Clear, soft peachy-brass. Off-white head to ring. Soft citrus, barrel tannin, mild oak and biscuity malt with some white bread. Lightly juicy with mellow tangerine and raspberry. Soft, easygoing malt texture without any aggressive sourness. Clean, mellow, flavorful, dry and malty. Not overdone adjunct.

Tasty rhubarb and berry character. Mellow fruit notes, decent acidity, some barrel. Good.

Pinkish and hazy. Very toasty. Lots of toasty, but then a fairly big plum character. I have to think what I'm perceiving as toastiness is the tea.

750mL 2015 bottle drunk 8/13/23. Clear, golden-apricot. Small, off-white head quickly to ring. Nose is very tart, but full of rich fruit despite its 8 years in bottle. Lots of lactic, moderate acetic, low brett. Malts seem supportive with light honey, a hint of caramel and plentiful oak and vanilla. Big burst of sour lactic and acetic, but fortunately the lactic and the fruit acidity vastly outdoes any acetic character. The malts and oak make the beer, providing a a slick, soft, deep texture to soak up some of the big acidity. Palate accustoms nicely to the acid, however and by the end it's mostly malt, oak and fruit character.

Can pour at Farmhouse Fest 2023, pours an opaque pinkish amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out bright plums, oak, and some acidic notes. Flavour is full of juicy plums, oak, acidic notes, and light acetone. Juicy, acidic and pleasantly integrated. Good stuff.
