Bright pinkish-red, looks more raspberryish. Average sized white frothy head. Medium cloudiness. Smells very tart, lots of hops and yeast, the cherries are there, but they are very dry and sharp. Begins very sharp, dry, tart with a good tart, lightly acidic cherry flavor that sours towards finish. The finish gets very complex with a heavier, chewier texture that surprisingly does resemble some old french cheese flavors, more the mouthfeel and micro-organism flavor, haha, dosent actually taste like blue cheese. Anyways, I think this is still extremely young, but very promising, could use more malt, it is overly dry, but maybe that will emerge somewhat as it ages.

Red colour, like blood, very pink foam. Sour, cherry aroma. Dry cherry flavour and a dry aftertaste. But still sour. I heard soon the last vats will be bottled.

Medium yellow with some gold hues and even some light orange tints, quite hazy. Tons of foamy white head. Smells tart and yeasty. Lots of lemon and some peppery spice aroma. Begins medium tart with some nice dry grainy malt and hops but quickly blooms into a bigger juicy malt and yeast body. Lemon, mild citrus and some spices, with medium carbonation on the palate make for quite a lively beer. Flavor has ample tart lambic flavor but is wonderfully balanced by a sweeter, light candied flavor. Stays very juicy through the finish, with quite a complex finish. Initially has some problems with carbonation and astringency, with quite a bitter palate, but this is much ameliorated by the sweeter sugar flavor and bigger finish, the sugary taste would get a bit cloying if you drank more than one of these, I’d imagine. I really appreciated that the flavor crescendoed as the beer finished and a wonderful aftertaste lingered. Too many beers do quite the opposite. Rerate. Not quite as wonderful as the last bottle. Still a very apple and sulphur nose, which I like, but the flavor tapered off too much towards the end of the glass. Body not quite as hearty as I remembered. Finish gets a bit lost amid water, lightly sweet something, and wheat dryness.

[Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival 2003] An unclear orange head with a small bubbly head. The aroma is sour and sweet with metal notes. The flavor is also sour and sweet with metal notes. It was not nearly as sour as I remember it from a visit to the brewery 1½ years ago (before I joined Ratebeer) - there it was gut-wrenching sour

Minus the fruit, it is easier to "get" the flavor of these Oud Beersel lambics. Pours a golden/orange color with a thin white head and tight carbonation. Aroma is sour and tangy with a hint of musty cheese (you know, the "crust" of brie, etc.). Flavor is a rich ensemble of tang, tart, sour, must, wood, and cheese crust. Strange yet addicting.

Well, the cherries are omnipresent in the rich red body and pink head, but surprisingly restrained in the flavor. I figured it was about time to try a lambic, and luckily I picked a good one. Vinous, tart aroma. Flavor is sour, tart and fruity smooth with musty notes reminiscent of brie cheese crust. Quite a change of pace from the usual fare.

Sampled 45-50 deg in flute. Another outstanding sampling from this brewery, but not as lovely as the kriek. A near perfect beer but I think I prefer the added complexity of the fruit in the kriek. Marvelous fruity aroma in this one though, a touch of peach and apricot and perfume. I told my fiance that if she had a perfume the smelled like this, I'd kiss her all the time. Refreshing effervescence in a lightly tart, lightly sweet flavor with light fruitiness. Pale goldish color with medium fading head.

Wow, and I mean wow. I've been pretty lucky lately picking up some truly oustanding Belgian ales. Nice looking beer, (I used a fluted pilsner for this, started out fairly cool around 45 deg, finished it before it hit 55 deg). Appearance is rather complex, showing different colors from different angles and lighting conditions. Mainly, it was a pure amber that glowed with a cherry red tone (yes I believe it did glow). The head was full and fizzy like champagne, and was tinted pink. Lively effervescence rising through the beer. Aroma was intense and appetizing, with sour cherry, musty possibly horseblanket or leather notes. Flavor was equally intense but the carbonation carried it down nicely. Tart cherry with a dry puckering finish, with an earthy funkiness providing contrast and balance. No bitterness, and it works - it finishes like champagne, dry and a little tart with little aftertaste. I never thought I'd be doing this with a fruit beer, but I loved this beer and can't think of a thing that should be changed about it, so....a 5 it is.

Sampled draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden.
My second beer at Akkurat's lambic festival (after a godly 14 y/o Eylenbosch Frambozen...). Poured deep golden and slightly hazy. Barnyardy aroma, but without the typical acidity usually associated with unblended lambic. The flavour is complex with notes of blue cheese and grass and it is surprisingly sweet and mild. Some saltiness in a finish domited by stale hop bitterness. Perhaps my one and only chance to sample this beer :-(
Ha, I was wrong :-) They had a second barrel of it. This seemed younger and was strikingly hoppy. Also it was more tart and with distinctive sharp mouthfeel and a really bitter finish.

Good head retention - cloudy golden body - aroma of apple cider, lemons, musty old cellar smells - flavor is dominated by tartness - some earthness - mostly champaigne-like - some malt presence creeps in at the end - good for the style
