16 oz can from Goldfinger, packaged 4 days ago. Big catty hop smell as soon as I pull the tab. Pours a big white beery head over a pale lager body, slightly hazy with a continuous stream of bubbles. Smell is big on those hefty hop notes, dander,just a note of tropical fruit and then some pine resin. Taste goes big on hop bomb quality. Lots of bitterness and resin, just a slight side of tropical fruit, with a bit of malt. But the malt is light, so the slightly higher alcohol has to defend itself against the bitterness as well.

.3l glass on tap at Goldfinger. Creamy cocoa nose from the draft galas. Thick brown foam dwindles away, leaving an even coating around the room. Nice note of dark roast Maria, not as intense as some in this style. I get a taste of the hoops along with the malt here as well. Makes for a mostly spiced impression. A lot of lace liners as the beer goes down. Instead of a big coffee or chocolate bomb, it's a dark lager with some Porter character. Call it the European translation of an English style.

Half litter dimpled mug at Goldfinger. Thick eggshell head that dwindles to legs on the side of the mug. Deep brown body looking more like a Newcastle than a festbier. Deep malty nose, some sweetness. Yummy rich Caramel malt taste. Seems pretty sweet, but mainly from malts more than sugar. There's only a slight edge of German-style hop to take the edge off. Oktoberfest Märzen is becoming one of my favorite style, and it's always great to get a fresh local version.

Draft at Goldfinger. Dark gold or light amber beer with a creamy white head. Nose is malty, more like an amber or Vienna beer, with slightly fruity side nose. Initial taste is substantial, mainly malt. Hop is still a slight burn of noble bitterness. Hop power is growing father down the glass, and now I catch some fruit. More of an apricot than the claimed peaches, but close enough. In fact, more fruit on the next dive into the glass. Could be like an India Pale Lager. Thick malts, though, keep asserting themselves, with a lot of toast and a little caramel.

There's a bit of dry hop in the nose, though surrounded by sweet malt. Not the beer” smell of, say, a PBR. Bright gold color, a healthy white head. Taste is nice and malty. I take back my impression of dry hop. Rather there's just enough to keep to basic beer taste, moreso than its nose. A bit more mouthfeel than the thin megabrews. I'm calling a bit of fruity estrr from the yeast. Like a concentrated PBR, I'd say. Very much more ordinary than the Pils. Not as crushable as the style might suggest. But a good base beer.

Fat dimpled mug at Goldfinger. Lovely amber color with nice foam. Malt smell not easy to discern when outdoors. But there it is, Deep and just a bit roasty. Big amber malt taste, nicely filling. Just a little sweet, with hopes staying mainly in the background. Hold that, the prickle of Saaz hops does come in halfway through the mug. If it's overstated for the style, I don't want to know.

Draft preview at Orange and Brew. This new beer is pretty nicely dialed in. A bright gold color under a thin head. Smell brings out the spicy Noble hops. That hop bitterness is up front on the tongue, backed by a dry toasty malt. Lacks the salty soft water profile of a fully Bohemian pils, which makes this more pleasant. A little complex to be a mere lawnmower beer, but still ideal for this summer weather.
