Description
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s. The Boston Beer Company has grown through the years to become the fourth largest brewery in the United States.

Initially, Koch rented excess capacity and brewed the beer at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company. As sales increased Koch developed other contract arrangements at various brewing facilities with excess capacity. To reduce reliance on contract brewing Cincinnati's Hudepohl-Schoenling brewery was purchased in early 1997).

In 2007, the Boston Beer Company purchased the former F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. By 2012, the Company was producing two-thirds of all its beer at the Breinigsville facility, and it has increased brewing capacity there. The Boston Beer Company also has a small R&D brewery located in Boston (Jamaica Plain), Massachusetts, where public tours and beer tastings are offered.

Bottle Pours a clear dark mahogany with a modest foamy off white head. Very fine and sturdy lacing. Aroma is a subtle note of mostly dark malts. Falvor is dark toast as the comercial description says, and some coffee and dk chocolate. I can barley detect the orange and cinimon. Feel is thin and the after taste is a slightly burnt flavor and tree bark.

Bottle. Amber colour, nice white head. Very nice, malty aroma. Very malty for a lager, mild bitterness. Not overly carbonated.

Bottle Poured light amber with a small off white head. Not much lacing. Aroma was very much like cherry pop. Flavor was a mild wheat, no real hop taste and a cherry flavore over it all.. Not swet like pop but just the right amount. Must admit, hard to get used to but it grew on me a bit. Feel was soft like a hef or wheat beer. No real aftertaste. Wierd but OK.

Amber coloured with no head. Sherry aroma. Very sweet flavour with a late touch of raisins. Perhaps too strong for it’s own good.

On Tap at Kahootz Clear dark amber with a very nice long lasting white head and excellent lacing. Malty and slightly sweet aroma, like honey.Flavors were of honey, wet cardboard, malts and not much hops. Feel was very nice smooth and fairly heavy with a slight hops bite at the end. A tasty seasonal.

2004 draught @ Redbones. Pours a good looking auburn-amber, clear and filtered but otherwise bright and appealing. Small yellow/cream colored head. Aroma has hints of light smoked wood, a touch of roasted malt and some hints of light toffee. Flavor begins with a lightly sweet malt flavor; hints of molasses and caramel. Flavor blends in to the smoke with a pretty good, real smoky taste. Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. No huge complex flavors, but a decent, very well balanced rendition. You’re not going to confuse this one with Aecht Schlenkerla, but I dont think they were trying to do so.

Bottled. Reddish brown, thick, no head. Balsamic port like aroma. Very sweet and woody. Immensly malty and extremely rich. Warming and complex. Strong oak barrel character. More like cognac or madeira than beer, and even though I find it gimmicky and overly pricey I must admit that I really like it.

Bottle. Slightly hazy light golden beer. Fresh wheat aroma, but not strong. Fruity, wheat flavor. Medium body. Bland in a bad way.

This beer is a hazy yellowish orange color with a thin white head. Thin and quick lacing. The aroma is light citrus, along with wheat and a pinch of spice. Light-bodied and somewhat crisp with wheat, orange and hops flavors. As with many Sam Adams beers, the execution is very good in making a mediocre beer. Not complex, but well-made. The finish is refreshing and citrusy. Overall an easy to drink Hefe that doesn’t break any ground in the category.

Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for this trade. Deep brown opaque color minimal tan head. Aroma of rich malt with a distinct chocolate touch. The chocolate in the flavor is unlike that of the chocolate flavor that roasted malt has. This doesn’t taste much like a Bock although it isn’t a bad brew. Somewhat of a novelty to be sure and if it were $2.50 a bottle instead of the $15+ that I have seen, it would be a worthwhile brew.
