Description
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s. The Boston Beer Company has grown through the years to become the fourth largest brewery in the United States.

Initially, Koch rented excess capacity and brewed the beer at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company. As sales increased Koch developed other contract arrangements at various brewing facilities with excess capacity. To reduce reliance on contract brewing Cincinnati's Hudepohl-Schoenling brewery was purchased in early 1997).

In 2007, the Boston Beer Company purchased the former F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. By 2012, the Company was producing two-thirds of all its beer at the Breinigsville facility, and it has increased brewing capacity there. The Boston Beer Company also has a small R&D brewery located in Boston (Jamaica Plain), Massachusetts, where public tours and beer tastings are offered.

Pours a nice copper with a big fluffy white head. NIce hoppy aroma. Flavor is nice mix of hops and malt. Alot better flavor than most lagers. Good for novice to pro.

Bottle Pours a pale yellowish orange, hazy, with a thin fairly dense white head. Aroma is slightly sweet, wheat, with a little spice. I don’t detect lemon There is a musty, dusty taste here that throws me off a bit. Otherwise, the tipical soft mellow slightly sweet, easy on the hops flavor that is typical of the wheat beers. Plain but pleasant. Feel is soft and slightly chalky, and the mild flavors can’t quite the alcohol that peeks through at the end. Lingering bread/wheat taste. Quite nice and easy.

Bottle Pours very dark nice head that settles to a thin tan film. Nice lacing. Aroma is coffee and dark roasted grain. Taste is fairly bitter coffee, grassy, sawdust, woody. Carbonation is lively, feel is a bit thin but pleasant lingering aftertaste of burnt wood and coffee. lower ABV also helps with it beiing easy to drink Nice but not the thick heavy flavor/feel of the better stouts.

Hazy golden color. Quite poor, paper, the typical Weizen character is hidden; a small hoppy note…

Bottled (BB 4/2005, ABV 4.8%)
Amber, almost red color, steady off-white head, lace. Aroma is sweet: malts, prunes, even a bit spicey - more like Belgium ale than a lager. Crisp, hoppied, sweet toffee notes underlying there too. Very nice long bitter aftertaste.

This is a total rerate. When I had this beer before I had rated it a 1.7. This beer has really improved or else I just had a bad bottle before. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy bronze color with a large frothy head. The aroma is all banana. The flavor is full of light sweet malts with noticeable banana and a hint of caramel and pepper. The mouthfeel is moderately thick.

I approached this beer with some trepidation as I have not been in general a fan of this style. However I was pleasantly surprised. +++ It came12 oz brown bottle with artwork typical for the Boston Beer Company. It pours an opaque dark red-brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and malty with just a trace of hops. The flavor is just like the scent, which I consider to be a good thing.

Bottled. Interesting. It’s definitely different, so is the difference good? Pours a deep brown under a fluffy but transient tan head with dark flecks. Smell is rather subdued, slightly bitter for a bock, with Droeste cocoa highlights. Taste is fine, perhaps a little too much coffee roast. Probably should have been a little less bitter to work better with the chocolate. • New tasting, Mar ’06: Y’know what? This is "Smores" beer!

For a light Summer ale this one is fairly pleasant.+++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a cloudy tan-orange color with a small white head that left decent lacing. The aroma is sweet citrus and perfume. The flavor is dry and lemony with a bit of vague spice. Dry spice flavor on the finish. The wheat is hard to detect. The mouthfeel shows definite overcarbonation. Pleasant but unassuming.

Slightly hazy amber/honey coloured body with a nice dense slightly off-white head. Aroma of corn, wheat, curacao, coriander seed and some spices. Light-bodied; Spicey wheatie taste with some light citrus fruit noticeable, but not much. Aftertaste clean and subtle-the larger tastes are up front. Overall, a decent beer to have readily available no matter where you are in the States! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle from a six-pack purchased by Phil (haddon90). Thanks again Phil! I sampled this on 25-May-2004.
