Description
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s. The Boston Beer Company has grown through the years to become the fourth largest brewery in the United States.

Initially, Koch rented excess capacity and brewed the beer at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company. As sales increased Koch developed other contract arrangements at various brewing facilities with excess capacity. To reduce reliance on contract brewing Cincinnati's Hudepohl-Schoenling brewery was purchased in early 1997).

In 2007, the Boston Beer Company purchased the former F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. By 2012, the Company was producing two-thirds of all its beer at the Breinigsville facility, and it has increased brewing capacity there. The Boston Beer Company also has a small R&D brewery located in Boston (Jamaica Plain), Massachusetts, where public tours and beer tastings are offered.

A Boston Lager and a Boston Ale...interesting. This ale was fairly rich and nicely hoppy with some earthy, perhaps a touch caramely malt body. Reminds me very much of the lager of similar name.

I've been casually looking for this beer for awhile and finally found it today. Pours a clear, deep red-brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is of caramel and raisins. Flavor is very sweet, with loads of caramel, some dark fruit, raisins, and alcohol in the finish. Full-bodied and sticky on the lips. The only real flaw is that the thick malts create a very sugary flavor that masks some of the more complex depth.

This lager pours a orange colour with a frothy white head. Very metallic scent to it. Doughy scents to the nose along with some malts. Initial taste is a little watery but then kicks in with a sharp taste of hops and malt. The palate is a little bitter with a strong hop flavour.

Great color, nice auburn/orange... maybe ruby... not much of a head though. Nice scent... don't know how to describe it, but it's nice. Taste is decent, better than a few other OKtoberfests I've had. An above average brew, and so far my favorite from the Sam Adams line (I really haven't been much of a fan of the line so far).

Has a cloudy golden-orange color. The beer smells awful: it reminds me of a trash dumpster filled with cans and bottles at a local bar or fair. The taste is nothing special, and actually leaves a weird tang afterwards. Inside your mouth, this beer tingles and almost has a metallic taste. I would not buy this again.

Auburn/red/orange beer with a thick (and long lasting) head. This beer has a nice appearance, but lacks a taste I'm looking forward to having. This isn't a bad beer, but I wouldn't say it's good either. But it's not average, because it's got a unique flavor. I can't see myself being tempted to buy another 6-pack of this.

Not bad for a light beer... but not worth the $4.00 I paid for a bottle of it tonight (hey, it was either this or Miller products). The taste is the only thing that stood out, and I wouldn't say it's good, but it has something to it, where many light beers don't. I wouldn't drink another for $4.00, but gimme one for a buck when all you have are Miller products and you sold me.

The appearance and smell of this beer are better than its taste and drinkability. So far, I have not been impressed with a single Samuel Adams beer, finding them to be quite plain and/or average, this beer included. It's got a nice amber color, and decent smell, but a very ordianry taste that I cannot see myself yearning for.

I suppose this beer comes down to the question, "Do you like cherries?" If ya do, sample it. If not, why would you even consider it? I tried this more out of curiosity than anything else, and I must say the results were better than the expectations I had. Great look...medium coppy, with a hint of amber running through. Great head. It's nice and fluffy and looks very yummy. It does have a nice black cherry smell, and it actually smells like black cherries rather than some cheap substitute air freshener (as I had expected, since I have encountered that several times). It's an OK taste. Nothing overly special, but it does seem to have a genuine cherry taste, rather than tasting like candy. I can't say I'd make this a part of my rotation... but it's really not bad.

Paid $1.19 for a 12-oz single. Before I even open this, I must say, I haven't been a huge fan of the beers from Boston- but I keep trying new ones to see what the hype is all about. Pours nice! Deep dark brown, nearly black, with an inch head that looks like the froth of a rootbeer float. A decent smell. Deep and smokey. Taste is well.. just OK. It's cold coffee, but thick, burnt cold coffee, with a tinge of burnt toast in there. It's not bad, but I've certainly had better. A bit lacking carbonation as well... not exactly flat, but not exactly active. Drinkable... but again, a bit disappointed with another Boston Beer. I've got another single of something else in the fridge for tomorrow- hopefully that'll be my breakthrough.
