(Bottle 75 cl) Pilsener golden with a limited head. Lots of malt, yeast and some slight citric notes. Sweetish and full-bodied with some musty notes. 110505

(Bottle 75 cl) Pale golden, almost greyish, slightly hazy with big lumps of floating yeast. Nice tall head. Spicy and fresh, buth it doesn’t reach the heights of the best Belgians. Still a nice wheat beer though. 070505

(Bottle 33 cl) Hazy, amber golden with a creamy but small head. Soft and sweetish with lots of malt and only a discreet, bitter palate. Very full body - and quite alcoholic. Very close to the typical, Belgian strong Blond ale. 120102

Bottled (BB 05/2006)
Clear amber, creamy white head, lace. Aroma is a bit metallic, malty with hints of caramel. Starts caramelly then metallic notes in the finish (typical bière de garde). Decent malty background. Similar to Jenlain Ambrée but not so tasty.

Golden color, small white head. Not very strong nose: malts, cardboard and wet paper. Hard metallic mouthfeel. Malty, iron flavor and light honey sweetness. Thin palate. French malt liquer.

Bottled. Dark brown. Vegetable aroma. Stale and lagerlike with medium body and strong notes of blood and metal. Low bitterness. Distinctly unpleasant.

Pretty aged bottle Brown-amber beer with positively ghastly chunks of funk; big bubbles not able to sustain the disparate head. Very fresh-fruity nose, carbonated fruitjuice-like (pineapple?), liquorice and caramel. A fruit caramel! Liquorice, bitterish flavour, partly roasted, burnt malt, partly wood. Rosewater and caramel flavours. Again a quite fruity character. Very little apparent oxidation, no acidity. Slick, because of the protein precipitation, medium bodied, thinner texture than when young. Not bad, has always been one of France’s best - and few original - abbey-style beers. Amber was the original colour. Drank this one from the tap once - in Crespin!
Rating for the original Réserve St Landelin from the Rimaux brewery, 40+ years after it was purchased (thanks to Stef!) Transparant head, fast gone over slightly veiled amber beer. 8 Madeirea, port, nutcake with booze and dried fruits as apricot. 8 Light sourish taint, madeirisation, old vintage port, again a bit nutty. Lots of fruity esters. 8.5 Light, still some carbonated feel. Thinning by age, but not really lean. 3 WHY do almost all pre 1985 beers age so more gracefully than contemporaries? What has changed so fundamentally? 8

Corked botte. Apple, malt and vinegar aroma. Amber color with large lacey head. Lightly sweet malt and apple juice flavor with moderate bitter finish. Moderate body. Nice and drinkable

Bottle: Poured a clear medium yellow ale with a medium head with better then average retention. Aroma is quite different then what I’m used to with some barnyard aspect and something quiet salty that I cannot instantly recognize. Taste is also quite salty but at the same time refreshing. Spices are a bit scarce for my liking and body if definitely too thin for a bière de garde but there is still something I like in this beer.

(Bottle 75 cl) Beautiful, clear, dark amber. No massive head but it sticks to the glass. Some caramel-notes and some underplayed aroma-hops. Some malt and a rather high carbonation. Technically this is a very well made beer, it just lacks personality. 010505
