Description
Cider done right. That means delicious West Country cider made from fresh apple juice, using the best locally-sourced apples. Founded in 2002, we are independent, family-owned and very proud to be based in the oldest working cider mill in the UK, breathing life back into the old building. Our home in the heart of Devon is the perfect micro-climate to grow cider apples and we are blessed with some of the finest bittersweet apple orchards in the world. We press and ferment whole juice from the finest locally sourced fruit, never from concentrate. No artificial flavours or aromas, simply the best natural ingredients, and then let it age to perfection. No shortcuts. The result? Delicious, beautifully balanced and naturally refreshing cider.

Bottled at SBWF. Clear golden/amber, still. Fruity medicinal nose. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Chalky and peppery, fruity and syrupy. Disharmonious burning sweetness. Medicinal finish.

500ml bottle. Sparkling golden colour, short-lived fizzy white foam head and aroma of tangy apple. Taste is apple, fruity, some tartness, with light wood and drying tannins. Light to medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry finish. Quite OK.

Keg at BrewDog Leicester. Nagham ordered it and seemed to swiftly regret it. Let’s see for myself: Golden, clear and sparkly. A bit of a ring of head. Nice yeasty apply aroma, pleasant but doesnt really evolve into anything more exciting. Taste is disappointing. Sweetish sour and a touch sickly. Short finish with apple strudel notes. Grows on me but ultimately not up to much.

Bottle from Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road. Starting peeing with rain so I ducked in here for a bit. Golden orange, clear with quite a lot of visible carbonation. Aroma of orchard fruit, pear drops, elderflower presse and Calvados. Sweet taste, a bit too sweet at first but held back by a gentle tanginess. Toffee apple, tangerine and whisky notes. Carbonation is light on the palate. All in all a very decent cider.

Alcohol bit in the finish. Pretty boosty stuff.

Box @ JDW Shrewsbury Hotel. Pours a clear, very pale green, perry-like. Floral aroma. Did not know anything about the cider before tasting, and the ginseng, lychee and ginger didn’t really jump out at me. There is a floral hint to an otherwise light apple fruit character, although no spice coming through. Ok.
