Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange-amber color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was a splendidly strong mix of sweet grapefruit, pineapple and pine that promised liquid glory. The flavor, sadly did not quite live up to the aroma but was none the less full of strong grapefruit and pine with a nutty, yeasty and almost smoky undertone. A bit too dry and bitter on the flavor. The finish was long, sour, nutty and full of fruity hops. The body was fairly thick. Well done but left me wanting.

Bottle thanks to boomer0813 and ericandersnavy. Pours with a hazy golden body with a bit of orange in it and a smallish white head. Aroma of banana, lots of caramel and vanilla. Taste is plastic with clove phenols, vanilla and light citrus zest. Thin body, a bit too fizzy.

Bottle thanks to boomer0813 and ericandersnavy. Pours with a tan head and a deep brown body. Aroma of cocoa dust, vanilla, coffee and sarsaparilla. Taste is cola, coffee, vanilla and earth. Solid! Light bubbles and a bit thin mouthfeel. A very solid, well made, albeit light porter.

This one came in my beer of the month club.....Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small beige head. The aroma was sour, tangy and roasty. The flavor was slightly dry, fairly bitter and very roasty with light coffee, fruity hops and floral hops. The finish was long, roasty and malty with notes of floral hops. Medium body. Decent.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of both sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol that tickles the tongue, and roasted malt, leading to a dry bitter finish.

Bomber. I’ve wanted this for several years. So many thanks to ericandersnavy for fulfilling the dream! Bottle cap is pretty cool - NM flag design. Pours reddish amber without much head. Aroma is like a doppelbock. Minimal hop, lots of caramel. But there’s chocolate, and a very familiar aroma I’ve not smelled for quite some time. Damn. Quite full bodied with lightly creamy carbonation. Complicated flavors - but overall it suggests cola - with a lot of other things. Very smooth. Leather. Citrus. Floral hop. Grassy hop. I’m drinking this at about 59 degrees, so the flavors and aromas are quite detectable. More than my palate can differentiate. It’s not the Westy 12 of barleywines, but it is a really intriguing one. About half way between a "fresh" barleywine and a Gales Old Ale. It goes down incredibly well. Everybody should try this at least once. With the passing of time the finish reminds of doppelbock.

Crisp amber/copper coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of strong hops, alcohol, oak, vanilla, malt and a bunch of caramel. Full-bodied; Strong assertive flavours of hops, malt, caramel, nuts, oak and a tiny bit of brandy. Aftertaste is fairly mild for the style, still showing a lot of complexity, but not with the large amount of warmth that usually come from Barley Wines. Overall, a good barley wine, definitely showing complexity and some nice flavours - sweetness and hops are good for this one. I sampled this 65 cL bottle (I hate this size for the style) purchased at Freeman’s Liquor in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 05-May-209 for just $6, sampled at home in Washington on 04-June-2009.

Draught at the brewery. Golden-amber. Malty aroma is fresh with biscuits, grains, malta. Slightly toasty, then fruity (apricot, plum), followed by more chewy malts and a splash of alcohol. A fairly mellow BW. Note that in my experience this does not age well at all.
