75CL. Thanks Nelson, brown to black with reddish edges. Smells like a porter with a lot of sweetness. Creamy mouthfeel, basic flavor, it has a solid chocolate presence, with some tobacco, wood, charcoal, dark fruit and milky finish. Decent but just a stout.

From notes at Extreme Beer Fest, Boston MA. February 6, 2016. The color is pitch black without any head, even after a direct draft sample. Aroma is heavy in vanilla with some earthy green coffee beans.

Flavor is over the top sweet. Yes it was poured at EBF but the vanilla overwhelms the coffee and the roast so much it is almost the only flavor I get. Coffee comes in slightly after the sip. ABV is pretty well hidden but nearly everything is hidden under these vanilla beans. Body is on the fuller side with a lower carbonation level.

Draught at EBF, 2/5/16.
Deep, ebony body shows light mahogany tints on the edges and low clarity otherwise. Tan head is medium-sized and fades steadily to cover.
Big bourbon, oxidation and toffee notes in the nose give an impression of both an English style (the toffee, raisin character) and also the more contemporary big, barreled, American version (strong bourbon, fudge, booze). The oxidation is light and perhaps ties it together, covering up some of the bourbon/barrel and yet drying out the big fudgey-toffee.
Chewy, thick, viscous, as you would expect, with a very enjoyable raisin-toffee character, leading to spicy bourbon, loads of vanilla and balancing roasted bitterness. Treacle and more toffee, with light raisin/prune accents finish, along with warming alcohol. For its size, it’s quite balanced between alcohol, bourbon and sweetness, though probably would be difficult to drink much more than 3-4 ounces. Nice beer and though I think it could use just a touch less sweetness, it’s hard to find too much fault.

Deep mahogany-ebony body shows low clarity and a tan head that slowly fades to cover.
For being their biggest coffee beer, it’s surprisingly balanced/easygoing in the nose. That’s not to say it doesn’t smell great, as it does, I was just expecting to be blown away by coffee. But I’m glad I’m not. Espresso jelly beans, deep, earthy coffee ground notes, lots of milk chocolate and light burnt toffee. Vanilla carries away the finish which is quite malty and silky with no alcohol or flaws.
Huge coffee flavor is of course full of espresso, with a light beaniness to it and tons of earthy, used coffee ground notes. Dark chocolate, interludes of toffee and lactic acid, moderate fruitiness and a vanilla-fudge finish. Whew. A lot going on here and yet it doesn’t bludgeon you with any one note. Body, like single shot, is a touch lackluster for the style. A touch loose on the carbonation and texture, despite all of the fudgey chocolate and lactose. Still, I’d take this any day over single shot. The fact that it’s not boozey is also pretty cool.

Heavily hazy golden pour shows a standard NE IPA with a white head that is small and shows moderate retention.
Smells the part, that’s for sure. Juicy, heavily aromatic, and with little/no pine/resin. Tons of tropical fruits with pineapple, honeydew, kiwi and meyer lemon. No alcohol and much like alter ego, there’s a slight citrusy edge to it of grapefruit rind. But it’s light. Malts are in the background providing honey and light cracker.
Absolutely explosively hoppy and full of juicy, lightly pungent and thoroughly bright tropical, dank, floral and melon-like notes. The extra malt here actually takes the light edge off that Alter Ego exhibited from the dry citrus character. Extremely drinkable to the nth degree here with no alcohol or flaws. Probably would still grab an Alter Ego/Julius vs this or KJ, as I don’t think the extra malt/abv really add anything at this already outstanding level of hop quality, but this is certainly a nice treat. Anyone rating this below a 4.0 is just being a douchebag and/or doesn’t know a good IPA when they have one.
Rerate can from early May 2016 batch and 750mL filled 6/24/16.
Wooooow...thats just a god damned glass of watermelon juice!! Ummmm. Ya. But balanced watermelon juice.

Can thanks to Leighton. It pours darkest brown with a decent tan head. The nose is rich, chocolate cake, bounty bar, coffee cake, burnt toast and espresso. The taste is rich roast, big coffee vibe, earthy roast, some creaminess, coffee cake, earth, wood and fruit cake with a dry, sort of sweet finish. Medium body and average, foamy carbonation. Aroma stands out. Decent overall.

Can shared in London - many thanks to Dr. Sandman for this treat. Pours black-brown with a creamy beige head. The nose has rich espresso, cocoa, roast. Medium sweet flavor with some sticky sweet chocolate, mellow earthy bitterness, scorched wood, milky coffee, baking cocoa. Medium bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Finishes with bittersweet cocoa, more robust espresso, earth. Great depth, and really drinkable.
