Description
Founded 2008 as White Gypsy. Renamed into Whitefield in 2011.

A small family owned brewery dedicated to brewing authentic, traditional style beers.

Our focus is on using the best available malt and hops from farmers and people we’ve actually met and visited. Beers are brewed using a traditional style German brewhouse, matured over many months and then we self-distribute all our beers to publicans and off licences we respect and trust. This we believe, allows us to provide you, the customer, with a genuinely authentic beer.

Bottle shared at chriso’s Easter 2015 tasting - London. Cheers to Colin for this one I think. Pours black-brown with a thick, tan foam head. The aroma holds milk chocolate and lots of ashy roast. Medium sweet flavor with subtle peat notes, some earthy bitterness, cocoa, smoke. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with further chocolate impact, subtle maple accents, moderate ashy roast and scorched earth. Not bad.

Draught at Against the Grain. Jet black with a full creamy head. Aroma is light toasty malt. Texture is perfect. Flavour is roasted malt, a little thin on the flavour, a bit more oomph and this would be super.

Cask at Kavanaghs. Dark brown to black with a thin head. Sweet malt aroma, heavy sticky malt flavour, not one of his better ones.

Bottle at Mum and Dads, from Callans Dundalk, 25/12/14. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a good sized off white cap that soon collapses to spotting. Nose is light citric rinds, bread dough, grass, hint of peach. Taste comprises melon, freshly cut grass, vanilla, faint citrus notes. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation - a little over cooked for my liking, semi drying close with subtle grassy hop bitterness. Inoffensive but equally forgettable.

Bottle from Drinkstore, Dublin [251214]
Caramel brown, bit murky, beige head that dissipates
Aroma of sweet fruity caramel, a bit musty, dab of of red berries, some alcohol
Taste - Sweet toffee malts, soft fruits, dab of red berry, some coffee, alcohol prominent at only 6%, malty
Palate - Medium carb and body, bit over fizzy, rather sweet. Finish is a bit too dry, alcohol, some bitter bit metallic coffee in the finish, a tad harsh
Overall - Not a great palate in this beer. Disappointing. Didn’t finish it.

Bottle from Bradley’s, Cork [071214]
Light yellow orange, soft haze, fizzy frothy white head that dissipates
Aroma of fruity pale malts, soft sweet pineapple, dab of sweet orange, some red berry, interesting fruit aroma
Taste of soft fruity malts, light bitter hops, soft sweet pineapple, orange, red berry, bit herbal. Delicate flavours. Unusual fruits. Soft earthy weedy hops, bit mineraly. Aroma bit better than taste.
Palate - Medium carb, medium light body, bit fizzy, soft sweet. Finish of soft fruits, more of that earthy hop in the finish
Overall - Like the concept. Interesting to try a beer made with 100% Irish hops.
