Dark red and opaque. Deep cherry aroma with bugs and wood and black currant. Bracing tartness and rich cherry. Heavy syrupy note as well. Burly sour brew, powerful with an acetic finish. Much more aggressive and less complex than it was at the ’05 GABF but still pretty fun.

Golden and cloudy. Even with no hops it has a nice head. A little toasty on the nose with lots of crazy spices - pepper, flowers, sage, orange. Complex and unconventional - reminds me of Saison Athene. Crazy floral, spicy notes. Soft body. Great malty sweetness and nutmeggy finish. Fresh and spicy, could be a good morning beer or a dessert beer.

Dark brown. Cocoa and fudge aroma with toastiness. Starts with a nice chocolate/coffee note but gets burnt, tannic and astringent late. Has a full body and finishes dry, but it’s still a bit harsh.

Golden-amber colour. Really flat. Nice fruity aroma with raspberry, currant, and light orangey notes. Has some fruitiness on the palate as well, but fades to a more woody, caramelly finish with a dull earthiness.

Hazy golden. Clean, well-balanced with some banana, vanilla, marshmallow character. Off-dry finish. Yeasty, maybe even coriander accent. Well-made but it didn’t captivate me.

Tap at the brewery - dark purple, nearly black beer, with a lasting tan head - rather dry aroma, with roasted notes, and touches of peat - bubblegum sweetness up front, followed by a drying, earthy, peaty flavor and a touch of bitterness - these later qualities seem to take over, as mild plum, chocolate, and vanilla struggle to get noticed - a bit out of balance.

Tap at the brewpub - dark purplish brown beer, with a lasting tan head - slightly musty aroma, with notes of candi sugar, mild yeastiness, and a dubbel-ish fruity character - medium sweet, with a tangy, nearly tart flavor on the back of the tongue - dark fruit and brown sugar settle well underneath this, along with a faint roastiness that adds an interesting dimension to the beer - quite nice.

Tap at the brewpub - hazy red/copper beer, with a foamy, sticky lace - aroma of new french oak (I don’t sense your typical bourbon barrel smell), cinnamon, cherries, a warm, whiskey character - strong, nearly cloying sweetness, with a mellow oak presence and light scotch notes - very mild fruity esters - gets quite hot in the finish, but a warm, spicy, almost cinnamon-like character tries to make the heat a bit more welcome, with mixed results.

Cask at GBBF 2007. A hazy amber beer with a thin bubbly orange head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of hops, lending it notes of grass and alfa acids. The flavor is sweet mlaty with notes of caramel combined with strong notes of hops again lending the beer notes of grass and alfa acids.

Cask at GBBF 2007. A hazy dark golden beer with a bubbly orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy which gives it notes of grass, as well as with notes of alcohol and yeast. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of yeast and oranges, leading to a quite bitter finish. The body is thin.
