Draught at the brewery, 1/19/18.
Light straw-blonde, slight hint of chill haze and a frothy white head atop showing moderate retention.
Grassy hops and peppery phenols mix together though the yeast is actually quite nice and true to CBC's house yeast, doesn't show clove or banana or bubble gum or any such nonsense. Malts are light, crackery, staying mostly out of the way. Some melon and peach are noted with no alcohol, resin or flaw.
In the mouth it's quite dry, with a "chewy", adjunct grain-like texture and soft enough malt showing biscuit and light cracker. Plentiful carbonation and grassy hop bitterness with melon, pear and apple from the yeast sitting on the finish. Pepper and grass are a pretty classic Belgian pale ale combination and they work tried and true here. Very straightforward, competent hoppy pale ale with no flaw or alcohol.

Draught at the brewery, 1/19/18.
Clear, brassy-golden, plentiful carb creating a small, white head of moderately-low retention.
Massively butter-laden with buttercream and popcorn showing strongly in the nose. Juicy, heavily fruity hop profile obviously gets obscured, while malts gain a buttery edge as well due to the huge diacetyl presence.
Huge butter bomb in the mouth with a soft-to-slick texture showing a good dose of honey-like malt and very fruity hops that provide low bitterness, no resin and stronger lime-mango as it warms and breathes. Really a shame that the thing had so much diacetyl in it, as you could tell it was quite a nice beer.

7.9/10 β€” Appearance 8 Aroma 7 Flavor 8 Texture 10 Overall 7.5
Draught at the brewery, 1/19/18.
Moderately-to-heavily hazy, though not approaching soupy. Deep bronze-maize and an off-white head atop showing moderate to moderately-low retention.
Soft mango-citrus-pineapple with a bit of malt showing biscuit and honey. Very light, bright and without any resin, pine or alcohol. Malt continues to emerge more prominently as it warms and breathes with more lime and mango coming to the forefront, as well. Not incredibly juicy, but yet still quite elegant with no strong yeast nor any flaw.
In the mouth it's insanely soft, malty, dry and very hard to accept that it's 8%abv. Tastes much closer to 5% with no aggressive notes whatsoever and just soft, honey and biscuit-like malts for days, with lime-mango and light tropical notes adding moderate juiciness. Just a hint of bitterness, though enough to keep it refreshing and balanced. Lovely.

750 ml bottle bought at Liquor Shed, I couldn't find any dating.

Pours a clear gold, head of foam doesn't last long despite my serving st room temperature. Swirling the glass doesn't help. The foam acts more like the fizz when you pour a soda.

Smells of peppercorns, lemon, sweet notes of perhaps candi sugar or honey, maybe a mix of both.

Malty but not so sweet taste up front. What sweetness I get is more honey like than candi sugar and, wham. The peppercorns move in and take over. Nice bit of heat there; light burning on the back of my throat. More sips, more domination of the pepper.

Medium bodied with fairly lively carbonation so..why the lack of foam?

The pluses outweigh the minuses so it's all good. The heat is on and it's good.
