GBBF. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Smooth palate, a little dry. Fine carbonation provides a sting. Fresh hops provide further sting. Pine dominates but there is fresh juicy orange and other citric things. Semi dry finish with good fresh hop bitter linger.

22 ounce bottle. Pours an opague black color topped by a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, espresso and dark chocolate. Flavor upfront is dark roasted malts reminiscent of espresso beans with peppery undertones. Mid taste is more coffee-like with bittersweet chocolate, oats and some worcestershire notes. Finish is more bitter and the hops show up. Overall, a nice stout that offers complexity and smoothness that should appeal to those who enjoy the style.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Darien. Pours a clear amber color with a large frothy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of big hops... resin, pine, herbal. A bit of toffeeish malt. The taste is similar... resin and pine hops... but with a bit more pronounced toffee malt. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. A bit disjointed, but almost in a good way, like it’s taking you on a journey. Solid beer.

Cask at GBBF (at 6%). It pours golden yellow, with a thin bubbly white head. The nose is grapefruit, tangerine, melon, orange, leaf, some manure and sweaty sock. The taste is straw, hay, resin, pine, citrus pith, grapefruit, light spice and some alcohol warmth, with bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and slightly syrupy mouth-feel. Decent stuff, but I imagine this would be better with more carbonation (i.e. from a keg).

Out of the bottle today at Portland Pie. Pours a solid golden yellow color with a thinnish off white head that slowly dissipates. Smells of citrus hops mostly, its an old school aroma of bitter hops with a hint of caramel and bready backbone. The flavor follows the aroma quite well, citrus and a hint of pine flavor and bitterness with just enough malt to keep it form being astringent. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick resinous mouthfeel. Nice IPA, not great but much better than some of the other options at the Shipyard pie company.
