tap at Portland brew pub - Pour slight amber and bubbly with an off-white head that laces well. It has a mild malt aroma with a hint of caramel. The taste is sweet and toasty with ample hops bitterness to balance it. It’s light to medium bodied with lively carbonation and a mild bitter finish.

tap at the Portland brewpub - Pours clear yellow-gold and very bubbly. It has a light cereal malt and hop aroma. The flavor is lightly bitter and reminiscent of a Czech pils. It’s quite refreshing.

Bottle at home in NH, shared with and thanks to Charlie. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a small, white head. Mild wheat nose. Light sweet flavor, kinda bland, some dough and yeast. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. OK finish, some subtle fruits, yeast and wheat. Very average overall, perhaps slightly below. Not bad to drink, though.

Big thanks to HOPSHUNTER for sharing this tasty treat, thanks Jason! Bomber pours deep darkness with nice looking mocha head. The aroma is nice and sweet with malts, chocolate, smooth sweet bourbon, vanilla and some spicy black licorice too. The taste has a good deal of milk chocolate mixing with black licorice spiciness and modest levels of smooth bourbon booze and bits of oak. Smooth and balanced brew. Nice!

Bottle shared by LtDan. Pours with a small tan head and a deep brown body. Aromas are roasty, smokey, light barrel and vanilla. No alcohol character. Flavors of tobacco, roast and vanilla. Really light barrel, a hint of smoke and chocolate. Medium bubbles, quite watery.

22oz bottle. Used a snifter. Pours a black color with ½ inch tan head very full and thick retention. Nose is light oak, vanilla and chocolate hints. Taste is very close to a regular sweet stout. With a very mild oak vanilla whiskey from the Barrel Age I pickup in the front side of the sip. Nothing over the top, that some people maybe expecting. Very subtle. It comes out much more as the beer hits room temperature yet still light. One negative is the body is pretty thin. Short dry finish. Cost $6.99 @ Gary’s Beverage in Portsmouth, NH.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light vanilla and lactose with notes of roasted malt. Taste is also a nice mix between some lactose heavy roasted malt with light touch of vanilla, bourbon is not a key player for this beer. Body is quite full with creamy body and medium carbonation. Very well brewed and something I would love to have again thought bourbon could have been a bit more pronounced.

i try to be as objectional about english ipa’s as possible, and most american english-style ipa’s are really good up front, its the second half of the pint that gets a little annoying. once your palate gets used to the hops, its the malts that start to get that sickly sweet, almost nutrisweet flavor that is in no way appetizing or satisfying, it just tastes artificial.
